A State Board of Elections review Thursday of vote totals in Sampson County left incumbent U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge close enough to challenger Renee Ellmers to seek a recount in the state's 2nd Congressional District race.

Ellmers, a Republican from Dunn, led by 2,099 votes Tuesday night, but the next day, Sampson County elections officials discovered they hadn't reported totals from three of the county's four early-voting sites, said Johnnie McLean, deputy director of the State Board of Elections.

The Sampson officials corrected the error Wednesday afternoon without telling the state, and Ellmers' lead slipped to 1,646 votes out of more than 188,000 counted. That narrowed the gap to less than 1 percent of the total, which is the threshold allowing Etheridge an automatic recount, if he asks.

Mistakes are random. Mathematically, an equal number of mistakes should shake out benefiting rebublicans as those that benefit democrats. I must not be well read enough, because it seems every voting irregularity or mistake I hear or read about goes to democrat candidates. Please, could someone please show me some election errors that have benefited rebublicans. I seek balance in my life.

“Sampson County elections officials discovered they hadn’t reported totals...”

...here it comes...”We discovered”, “We missed”, “We found”, “Oh look”, “We didn’t open”, “We forgot”...

I have a bad feeling about this one. Ellmers has two antagonists, the dems and the establishment GOP.
I’m only a few hundred yards out of Etheridge territory - had to vote for Price’s opponent, something I do every two years.

“We found a ballot box in the bushes...with all Democrat votes...that MUST be counted.”

“We found a ballot box in the trunk of a poll worker’s car that must be counted...and they were all Democrat votes.”

When will people go to jail for stealing elections all over the country?

Never, until we make them.

The Sampson County elections officials were holding onto 3001 ballots from early voting sites? You would think they would have entered these votes the very first thing Tuesday morning when the polls opened, just like Johnston County did... My guess is that the fix is already in and Bobby-Ray Etheridge is about to serve his last 2 year term for the the very odd shaped 2nd district. The good news is that North Carolina's General Assembly will be taken over by the Republicans very soon and all of our congressional districts will be reshaped next year so Bobby-Ray Etheridge will be forced into retirement.

They're going to pull a Stuart Smalley.

Union goons are finding boxes of misplaced ballots in their trunks at this very moment.

Isn't it ironic that those ‘misplaced ballots’ were found in Sampson County. The same county where Boom Boom Etheridge was born. Just a coincidence I reckon.

How convenient. The modus operendi is repetitive and obvious now.

Ellmers needs our help. SarahPAC and the RNC have ponied up some money but she needs at least $50,000. If you’re not totally cashed out, please consider donating what you can. Thanks.
