Media Lies About Sarah Palin Korea Comments (Global Hit on Palin)
Thursday, November 25, 2010 | Kristinn

Posted on 11/25/2010 8:41:56 AM PST by kristinn

A hit piece by a liberal blogger about a slip of the tongue by Sarah Palin regarding the crisis on the Korean peninsula has become an international news story that is being spun to impugn Palin's credibility as a potential presidential candidate.

Palin has been dishonestly quoted out of context in dozens of articles and broadcast reports as saying on the Glenn Beck radio show on Wednesday, "We gotta stand with our North Korean allies."

Here, in context, is what Palin actually said (transcription by Kristinn):

Glen Beck: "Sarah you said, you said in the last few days that you are considering a run for president. And uh, polls show that you would probably win the Republican nomination. How would you handle a situation like just developed in, in North Korea?"

Palin: "Well, North Korea, this is stemming from I think a greater problem when we're all sittin' around asking, "Oh no, what are we gonna do?" and we're not having a lot of faith that the White House is gonna come out with a strong enough policy to, um, sanction what it is that North Korea is gonna do. So this speaks to a bigger picture here that certainly scares me in terms our national security policies. But obviously, gotta stand with our North Korean allies. We're bound to by, by treaty."

Beck: "South Korea."

Palin: "We're also bound by, yeah, we're also bound by prudence to stand with our, our South Korean allies. Yes. And, uh, you know to remind North Korea, well, we're not gonna reward bad behavior and we're not gonna walk away. And we do need to press China to do more to increase the pressure on North Korea."

The smear started with liberal blogger Oliver Willis who posted an entry with the title, AUDIO: Sarah Palin: "We Gotta Stand With Our North Korean Allies. The blog post did not transcribe Palin's interview with Beck, it just had a snarky comment, "Genius. Absolute genius. When Glenn Beck is correcting you on foreign policy, well… genius."

Willis included the audio clip in his post which this transcription is based on. As can be seen, it was a simple slip of the tongue. But, because of how Willis disingenuously framed it, the slip has become "truth" to once again be used to smear Palin as ignorant of foreign affairs.

The hit piece was picked up by Mediaite, a site founded by former MSNBCer Dan Abrams, which titled their hit piece, Sarah Palin - North Korean Allies.

Mediaite also posted the audio clip. But even with the evidence that the comment was clearly a slip of the tongue, Mediaite smeared Palin as ignorant by quoting her out of context rather than publishing the entire exchange with Beck.

For good measure, Mediaite brought back a previous smear of Palin that claimed in 2008 when she was selected to be John McCain's running mate she did not know Korea was divided between North and South.

The Weekly Standard came to Palin's defense last night with a piece that chided her critics for the smear.

That did not stop the smear from going global, however. A Google News search shows nearly one hundred articles accusing Palin of not knowing that South Korea is our ally.

Wire services, broadcast networks and newspapers across America and the globe have gleefully picked up the smear.

The BBC piled on today with an article that said, "Her slip of the tongue over North Korea will provide more ammunition for critics who say she doesn't have sufficient knowledge or experience for high office."

The Times of India headlined their article, Sarah Palin's Latest Verbal Gaffe - North Korea an Ally.

It is a testament to Palin's global reach and influence that such a simple slip would garner worldwide headlines and be used by her enemies here and abroad to smear her.

However, the truth must be told and the media once more shamed for their duplicitious reporting.

Palin’s greatest asset, and ours as well, is that she is in the heads of so many people. Her best service to our cause is to continue as a commentator, and someone who will stand and say things that could not be said by a president of all the people, to speak poignant truths. But I would vote for her if she runs... personally, I think she wields more power from her position as a mom and stateswoman.

Yes, I’m sure Gov Palin knows that North Korea is not our ally. But leaders and potential leaders must try to stop and think before they speak, especially when we are talking about 2 countries on the brink of war.

I have stated previously that when it comes to International References Sarah might allude to she needs to be spot on as what is happening now is exactly what would occur. Media would run with it. She will not be given even an inch for common errors all other politicians make....they are out for her and it is obvious so now, even on the International Stage. It was said, "Whoever controls the media controls the world". And much truth to how they will always frame what's spoken to advance their cause....which is uniting Sovereign Countries under Global Governance. Sarah Palin is in the way of this agenda in their eyes. She is all about our Sovereignty...and so am I.

I am a huge Sarah fan. Having said that I cringed when she had this brain freeze on Beck and it is an indication that she has work to do. I do not know who is advising her but my advise would be, slow down, fully engage brain then engage mouth. Speed of response in not an indicator of thoughtfulness. Its pretty clear she hasn’t thought about the Korean issue and her answer was incoherent.

If she learns to overcome her urge to to respond, then think, she will kick their butts all the way to the white house. if not, she will be easily marginalized.

There will always be people who think Sarah Palin is stupid.

That is only because they are not smart enough to understand what she says and what she is.

I heard that interview in its entirety and what impressed me most was that it was totally off the cuff, a real person speaking her mind and she was right on track on every topic they discussed.

Don't forget the "corpse-men." O'Bunghole, as Commander in Chief, doesn't know how to make the phonetic enunciation of the word "coreman" (corpsman). Palin is brilliant. O'Bunghole is a drooling chimp.

The slip of the tongue is meaningless.

The real issue is (or should be) that her response to a very specific question on an issue of global importance was sophomoric smoke and lacking any substance that would indicate a grasp of the long on-going situation.

"Stand by our allies" just doesn't cut it...not from somebody who says she could beat the incumbant.

I've called my wife by my daughter's name and vice-versa. They'll make hay out of every misstep by Palin because Palin is not controlled by the media or trained by the Washington establishment to go along with the left agenda. She's for real and on the side of the middle class and the earners.

ON the other hand, don’t we continually bring up his “57 states” quote, and his “muslim faith” quote, even though we know they were both gaffes?

It’s absurd for a major news outlet not to delve into the actual facts of a matter; but it would be silly to believe Palin’s critics won’t quote this for the next two years, just as we will quote Obama’s gaffes until he’s no longer President.

She still has time. But given the popular opinion of her, she needs to get on top of this, or she’ll never overcome the negatives.

Not a good idea to compare Palin to Obama. He’s so low on the scale of standards it brings her down. Most anyone could excell beyond Bo.

As the Weekly Standard reports....this only MAKES HER CRITICS LOOK STUPID:

Some of Palin’s usual antagonists are going nuts over this slip of the tongue, but they don’t point out that she correctly identified North Korea as our enemy literally 8 seconds before the mix-up: “We’re not having a lot of faith the White House is going to come out with a strong enough policy to sanction what it is that North Korea is going to do.”

There was more to her response than that. She also said don't reward North Korea's bad behavior and put pressure on China to rein in North Korea. She noted that the bigger problem is the weakness in the White House.

...even though we know they were both gaffes?

I'd let the 57 states thing go, if it were not for there being 57 muslim states in the world. Nope, too weird to let this one go like that.
