China has warned against military activity near its coastline ahead of U.S.-Korea naval exercises, according to Reuters.

The attack was nothing but a Chinese plot to create a scene in connection with the military exercises. It had nothing to do with North Korea.
Expats recalled as North Korea prepares for war
A mass exodus of North Korean workers from the Far East of Russia is under way, according to reports coming out of the region. As the two Koreas edged towards the brink of war this week, it appears that the workers in Russia have been called back to aid potential military operations.
Vladnews agency, based in Vladivostok, reported that North Korean workers had left the town of Nakhodka en masse shortly after the escalation of tension on the Korean peninsula earlier this week. "Traders have left the kiosks and markets, workers have abandoned building sites, and North Korean secret service employees working in the region have joined them and left," the agency reported.
Russia's migration service said that there were over 20,000 North Koreans in Russia at the beginning of 2010, of which the vast majority worked in construction. The workers are usually chaperoned by agents from Kim Jong-il's security services and have little contact with the world around them. Defectors have suggested that the labourers work 13-hour days and that most of their pay is sent back to the government in Pyongyang. Hundreds of workers have fled the harsh conditions and live in hiding in Russia, constantly in fear of being deported back to North Korea.
You bet they do. I don't think China has any real control over the Norks but they will use whatever they do to push back against us and any influence the U.S. has in the orient, real or perceived.
If this situation breaks out into unrestrained conflict we should respond without any restraint at all. Devastate NK totally. Then make it clear to China that, while it was the only thing we could do to protect S. Korea, they can take it as a message in Beijing too. No apologies, no qualifications, no caveats at all.

Japan On Alert Over N Korea Developments
TOKYO (Kyodo)--All members of Prime Minister Naoto Kan's Cabinet were on alert Saturday for developments in North Korea prior to a four-day joint military drill to be conducted by South Korea and the United States in the Yellow Sea from Sunday.
Cabinet members have been ordered by Kan to stay in Tokyo until Wednesday and be at their ministry offices within an hour in the event emergency situations develop.

Wrong. You are tired of it, I am tired of it, and perhaps a handful of Freepers and other like minded individuals are tired of it. The vast amount of Americans could care less. Just tell them what kind of useless junk is on sale for Black Friday so they can run up their credit cards. That’s all most Americans care about.
You can bet we will back down on this matter. We have just under 40K US Troops in South Korea. If we wanted to send a message it could have already been done. No, what do we do we send a Carrier task force that will take a few days to steam to the Yellow Sea. And once again you can bet they have orders not to put the pedal to the metal as well. I doubt they will ever get to their destination without being pulled back. And if I’m wrong and they do get there you can also bet they will be under orders to deedee at the first sign of hostilities. These aren’t goat herders in some back-water-istan. If the balloon goes up here it will be the real deal and our current so called leaders will simply not pursue the matter. I wish like hell my predictions were wrong on this. But deep down you probably know I’m correct.
The 25ID is the first line of reinforcement should thingspop in Korea. They have been stripped of multiple Stryker and other combay elements to plug holes in the WOT. If anything were to happen we would be re-activating multiple NG units and that would take weeks if not months.
The 251D has been stripped of necessary defense elements?
We would have to reactivate the National Guard to have enough troops to make a difference? In my mind, that is as dangerous as no response at all. At least to the troops.
So I wonder...worst case scenario...would the current ROE that are in effect in Afghanistan apply to another military action?
