A defiant Iran announces it has begun mining its own uranium

Iran delivered a resolute message yesterday on the eve of talks with six world powers: We’re mining our own uranium now, so there is no stopping our nuclear ambitions.

The Islamic Republic said it has produced its first batch of locally mined uranium ore for enrichment, making it independent of foreign countries for a process the West fears is geared toward producing nuclear arms.

No matter the United Nations’ sanctions over the program, “our nuclear activities will proceed, and they will witness greater achievements in the future,’’ Iranian nuclear chief Ali Salehi told state-run Press TV.

Is this what happens after Stuxnet wrecks the centrifuges?

Huh? The centrifuges need UF6 as raw material. They need uranium as a feedstock regardless of Stuxnet.

They used to brag about how many centrifuges they had running and how much uranium they were refining. I haven’t heard that boast in a while.

Is there a job you’d want less than working in an Iranian uranium mine?

They have several problems:

- Their short-range missiles were mysteriously destroyed.
- Stuxnet mysteriously hit their defense systems.
- Stuxnet mysteriously hit their enrichment plant.
- Some of their worker-bees were executed over Stuxnet.
- Their top nuclear scientists were mysteriously killed.
- Many of their Arab brothers are calling for their demise.

I don’t think it will take bombing their enrichment site to slow their progress.

no big deal, apparently Russia bought two of our Uranium mines here in Wyoming today. The kicker is the company, ARMS, that bought these mines has shipped uranium to Iran before. So Israel may be get nuked with our uranium soon.

How do these stories even get started and so goofed up? Iran has been mining uranium for over 40 years. It is of such poor quality and so contaminated by molybdenum that it wasn't commercially viable.

They buy what they need overseas far cheaper. What has happened is that they have an experimental refining facility to make yellowcake from their own raw ore for the first time. Laboratory quantities only.

There is no story here and the media, Fox included, they have been the noisiest, have done no fact checking on this story. We don't need hype and hysteria.
