No wai.....
Srsly?
I’ve had better years, by far. In fact, this has been one of the worst I’ve endured. Murphy’s Law was in effect the entire year.
I’ll be so glad to see it in the rear view mirror!
Happy New Year to you!
Hay, ganag!
We’re over hear!!
Happy New Year to all of you!
A NEW THREAD! (Huuzzahhhh!!!)
A NEW BOTTLE! (Huuzzahhhh!!!)
A NEW TOY! (Huuzzahhhh!!!)

Setup in progress....
Ganag makes me hungry.
It sounds chewy.
Oooohhhh! Shiny!
It’s actually a typso of gang.
Weidh.
One more outing this evening. I was really looking forward to a quiet evening at home, but we, along with our rector and his family, were invited to a traditional dinner this afternoon by a Lithuanian member of our parish. This is risky, given my stomach, but I could not say no. Her family are back East so she's invited some of her parish family.
Also not wild about road conditions. The county has been parsimonious regarding icing and it can be treacherous out there.
LoM is finishing up the last batch of Atholl Brose for later, then we leave.
Welp, I’m going to watch the weather report and go to bed. I didn’t sleep well again last night, and I’m beginning to feel the pull of the bed.
For sure, I’ll sleep through the fireworks on the Strip and on Fremont Street. It’s just too cold for this native.
Nice!
Later. We’re about to head out.
Happy New Year, all! What an excellent thread to return to (just got to love a Ronnie thread!) . . . I hope 2010 has treated everyone well & wish the very best for everyone in 2011.
sionnsar, thanks for continuing to include me in your pings so I was able to find you!
Excellent choice sir.
Happy New Year Easter Bunnies!
I debated for awhile between the $150 1TB single-drive unit and this $220 2TB dual drive unit, and finally broke down and spent the extra $70 & tax.
I have slightly less than 70GB of “shared” files, between pictures, video, music, and other documents that I wanted to move off of my old foundering PC to give its 120GB hard drive some breathing room, again.
I could have stuck with the 1TB single-drive “My Book Live” unit if my intent had been simply on create an external backup copy, but I wasn’t comfortable with all of that stuff being on just one hard drive.
Call it paranoia, or whatever; my inner engineer kept reminding me about redundant capability, and the perils of having a single point of failure.
I concluded that the only way I’d be able to sleep at night was to spring for two drives, and use one for storage, and one for backup. Happily, this “My Book World Edition II” has 2 1TB hard drives, and comes right out of the box with them set up as a RAID 1 mirrored pair.
Setup was, essentially: connect, power up, discover, map shares, and use. The hardest part was waiting for all of the data to get transferred over. There are some Advanced configuration settings I want to tweak, but it’s not required.
Yeah, 'tis.
And it's got this row of white LEDs behind a vertical translucent strip on the front that go on and off in a sequential up and down fashion. Think "Knight 2000" but vertical and white, not red. DEFINITELY more hip than a single, boring, steady-state LED. ;-)
Exactly right! On my list of things yet undone is my own version -- admittedly not as convenient as a RAID unit, but to backup both to the 1T external drive and a 250G drive internal to the Linux box (currently disconnected).
Similar to my work laptop backups: one to the 1T drive and one to a 60G laptop drive in a sleeve.
Thank you. There was really no question about it when I first saw this thread.
