DeMint Drops Bid to Delay Action on New START (selling America OUT)
National Journal ^ | December 15, 2010 | By Megan Scully and Rebecca Kaplan

Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., backed off threats today to force a reading of the New START arms-reduction treaty after the White House assailed the delay tactic as a “new low.”

Senate leaders had estimated that a full reading of the accord could take 15 hours, which would have thrown a wrench into ambitious plans to finish work on New START, an omnibus spending bill, and several other pieces of legislation before the Senate adjourns for the year.

If you don't vote for the Republican, you are voting for the Democrat.

By not voting, or voting for a third, fourth or fifth Party Candidate, you are in fact voting for the Candidate supported by the Posters at Daily Kos and DU.

Sad but true.

Yeah, right. Easy for her. She holds no office. Talk is easy and cheap.

Think so? Talk isn't cheap when you're about to run for the presidency. Every word you utter will follow you into the campaign, and some words can be deadly.

Your knee-jerk Palinoia logic fails.

Senator DeMint is no RINO.

The fact of the matter is that in this instance he made himself out to be the standard bearer of the Conservative cause and he blinked. He obviously didn't think through his original position and he gained absolutely nothing except making himself look weak and unprepared for his role as the barricade against Tyranny.

With the White House weighing in on this, DeMint has made Obama look stronger while Demint looks weaker, thus making the Conservative cause look weaker as well.

No balls, no glory...

These rats, with the help of republicans - ALL OF THEM, but Michelle Bachmann and Pence (until they fold also), will pass EVERYTHING THEY PLANNED. Everything! I am sick - sick - sick!!! USELESS ELECTIONS! Elections don’t mean anything anymore. It will all pass like healthcare and the republicans will do the same. NOTHING!!! Sickening! They will vote again without anyone reading the bill. SICKENING!

There is no upside for DeMint to offend fellow senators by ignoring Senate protocols. He will want others to help him on the omnibus.

I suggest that people read, do their research, and have some faith in our leaders before subjecting them to these unwarranted villifications. Target your ire on the Left.

Stop, think, and learn before mouthing off.

Alright. I'll defer to your reasoning and stand down for now.

What we're really missing is a statement from someone in the know, that explains what DeMint did today. What you just said comes closer to doing that, than any post on the thread.

I will agree with you on point. Anything you have on record that you said or did will follow you.

That you are right about.

Knee jerk? I don’t think so. I see a lot of knee jerk here regarding DeMint. I thought Palin and DeMint were buddies.

I see a lot of knee jerk here regarding DeMint.

I won't argue that point. It's becoming clearer, as this thread develops, that Jim DeMint didn't "fold" or surrender to Harry Reid and the White House, as the opening post makes it appear.

However, even if DeMint has the votes to block passage of START, he allowed himself to be snookered into dropping his demand to have the legislation read on the floor of the Senate, which gives the initial appearance of a surrender on his part.

Someone of his stature should know by now that the lying yellow dog press will attempt to make anything he does look bad to the American people. On first glance, it looks to me like he inadvertently handed them a public relations victory - if not a real one.

Were I Jim DeMint, I would have forced Harry Reid to go to the microphones and capitulate to the Republicans in public. That just would have had to have been part of the deal. The way it looks now, it appears that DeMint is the one who caved.

Barring that, I would have made sure that the mics and the cameras were right outside the door, so that I could make a victory announcement to the press.

I thought Palin and DeMint were buddies.

Have you seen Sarah denouncing DeMint for this? I haven't. I suspect that Jim and Sarah are just fine, and that she's pages ahead of the rest of us on this.

I am sick of the Senate and their “decorum”, they are nothing but a bunch of elite asses who deserve to be offended. Including that Mike guy who made the bad tax deal with Barky in the first place.

I agree. Jim DeMint is a stand up guy who has been taking the heat from his own party as well as the Dims for awhile now. If he backed off he had a good reason.

You’ve got that right savedbygrace. DeMint has stood strong on conservative causes...there is more to this then meets the eye. What a knee jerk reaction from freepers in this case.

Gene, anyone calling DeMint a rino needs a shrink. Just a knee jerk reaction from some freepers that dont know the facts or details on this yet. I have faith in DeMint.

Obama needn't have been elected at all. A warm round of applause to all the RINOs who stayed home in 2008.

Folks, get the facts first before you criticize, especially when the object of your criticism is a fairly good conservative.

I'm thinking we don't know the whole story here. Let's wait and get some clarification before we throw what has been a good conservative to the wolves.

Indy, you might want to do the same with your Palin animus too, we need to hang together and realize our enemies are the Obamacrats.......
