EU court orders Ireland to scrap anti-abortion law in move set to spark Catholic outrage

Ireland has been ordered to change their law banning abortion, likely sparking outrage from religious leaders. The European Court of Human Rights ruled today that the constitutional ban on abortion violates the rights of pregnant women to receive proper medical care in life-threatening cases. The judgment harshly criticised Ireland's long inaction on the issue.

The judgment from the Strasbourg, France-based court will put Ireland under pressure to draft a law extending limited abortion rights to women whose pregnancies represent a potentially fatal threat to their own health.

If you want to have an abortion, go to another EU country that allows it. Problem solved.

I agree. It´s not the EUs job to tell the Irish which laws they want to have in their own country.
btw. abortion tourism is pretty popular in “europe”.

The problem is that the EU has attempted to subjugate the nation.

Looks like Ireland needed a much longer spoon to sup with the EU devil.

Yep the (unelected) EU autocrats try this all the time.
But i do allso blame the “local” countries politicians.
because THEY are the same people who did send this people there (and then try to play the “we did nothing you know it´s the evil EU” card back at home).
Unfortunately most people are not aware of this.

It appears that soon we’ll be able to settle on the price of the soul of Ireland.

The EU government was a really bad idea.

To quote a recent comment made by Nigel Farage to the EU Council:

"Just who the hell do you think you people are? You are very, very dangerous people indeed."

He is one of the few rays of light for freedom and independence left in Europe. Excellent interview of Farage at the following link:

Understood but much like Andrew Jackson said: they made the ruling now let them enforce it.

I am not aware that they can do so. Here, there is law enforcement that makes you obey...but there are no similar eurocops are there?

So a meddlesome suit like this one could be greeted with a lifted finger?

no need for cops, troops or whatever.
Does the us supreme court need the marines to enforce a decision? I hope not ;-)
This is law. As long as Irland does not quit the EU they are forced by countless treaties to obey the law the same way the “others” are. I mean Irland is not a banana republic where you have to send in the military to enforce existing (even they may not be popular) obligations.
Yeah gave the EU the finger (if you don´t like a decision) sounds nice but is not even realistic nor will this happen because NO one would ever sign a treaty in any form with you again. I mean why should they? if you don´t care to enforce them. They could allso leave the EU voluntary if they would do this (will not happen) because finally they would get kicked out sooner or later anyway if you don´t enforce existing laws (which you have agreed in the past).
So ignoring this is not even an option.

Yes the SC does. I believe troops were dispatched to Montgomery Al and Little Rock to enforce their rulings.

I agree with what you are sayin g but at some point it has to become obvious to even the most craven Euor that a confederation formed for economic wellbeing and strength is now dictating morals and mores, in effect ruling them. That would make them no longer a country but a state.

If that is what they want, thats fine. I would not be in favor of someone outside my country telling what laws I can enforce or not enforce.

Lesson for the US here. I wonder if we are smart enough to learn it.

Those are VERY good points.

We should be out of their.

PERSONALLY, I think we should have submitted a bill for the White House reestoration costs to the Brits before we got involved in WW1 for them.

Yep the times when the EU was only a economic block are over since years (the only difference is that many people are not aware of this). more then 50% of all new laws are no longer made in the single countries. There are ongoing EU military missions around the globe.
Just watch this video. You will notice many different European soldiers all having one thing in common. a blue EU flag on their uniforms, tanks, ships...

You misunderstand. The EU project is about creating a trans-european ruling class and elites that will promote the Bureaucracy in Brussels' interests above those of its own people when necessary. In large part, they have succeeded. They would like the average people to have love for the EU too, but that is not the most important thing. The most important thing is to be sure the Euro-elites remain installed in Dublin, Paris, Madrid, Lisbon, (and they hope London) etc...

Even though the EU "Constitution" was rejected at various times by plebiscites in France, Netherlands, and Ireland, that has never stopped them from pressing forward.
