After abandoning on Thursday night a $1.3 trillion omnibus Senate spending bill, Democratic Senate Leader Harry Reid filed cloture for the DREAM Act and a stand-alone repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" - both of which are now expected to reach the Senate for final votes as early as this weekend.
Reid, faced with receding Republican support for the spending bill (not to mention threats to read it aloud in its 1,924-page entirety), turned his attention instead to two bills that liberal Democrats hope to push through in the final days of the lame duck congressional session.
The Senate is now expected to vote on debate for both the DREAM Act and a repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" on Saturday morning, and the Washington Post reports that final votes on both bills could take place as early as Sunday or Monday.
The Saturday vote on "Don't Ask" will be Senate Democrats' third attempt this year to eliminate the policy, which prohibits openly gay men and women from serving in the military, and many believe it the best - and possibly last - chance to repeal the measure before a newly Republican-heavy Congress convenes in 2011.

Any talk of amnesty before our borders are secure is suicide.
No kidding. What "minority" perversion will be next to receive "status"? I don't want to know.
Apparently the two doofus heads here in VA are voting to repeal DADT. They just put it online in our local paper.
So-called transgenders of course. We will soon have Marines who dress in trousers or skirts/bras depending on whether they feel more like a guy or a girl on that particular day. And as Admiral Mullen says, if other Marines have a problem with that, they will be invited to find a line of work other than war-fighting.
Forever dem if amnesty passes. Simple as that, so burn those phone lines!
Repubs are too chicken sh*t to just walk out. They need to shit it down until January. Lame duck sessions are a joke. How is it fair to let members vote on things that determine our future....... members that have been rejected and voted out by the PEOPLE. It’s ridiculous. Nothing is higher priority for the Dems than making sure the fudge packers are taken care of. Freaking perverts!
Amnesty is an insane idea whether the borders are secure or not.
WHOA, HORSE!
I really don't wish to start a food fight, but the following is something which might interest some thread readers.
You go a bit wide of the mark. Your fear may not apply to every location nor every demographic.
I live in San Antonio, Texas. Our city is over sixty-percent Tejano/Latino/Mexican-by-descent. The neighbor family to my left as I type this reply is from Guatamala. David is a recent naturalized citizen. David was so proud of earning his citizenship that the first thing he did when I got home was show me his certificate of naturalization and the lamented wallet-size version.
"This is my country." He beamed with pride, meaning he believed correctly that he shared something more in common with his neighbors than he did the day before the naturalization ceremony. I suddenly remembered how his wife, who then spoke little English, told my wife how they had watched the HBO series, "John Adams" (obviously, the Spanish dubbed version), and how when their children started school they would learn English (which they absolutely have).
Contrary to popular history, until the middle 1900s San Antonio was not predominantly Mexican. What spiked the demographic shift was the long and bloody Mexican Revolution which drove refugees north. Among those refugees was Henry Cisneros's Grandparents.
(The Mexican Cartel Wars is pretty much nothing more than the revoluntionary class wars within Mexico. Lots of Mexican nationals with means are fleeing to the U.S.)
In the present form, I oppose the DREAM Act and have urged all of my representives in Congress to vote it down and out. In a different form . . . I might support it.
But, with respect to elections here in San Antonio, ethnicity might play a part, (race and ethnicity always does) but even in the hey-day of La Raza Unida/Chicano activism, we always chose the best choice for San Antonio, as we believed it might be.
Majority Latino/Tejano/Indian districts elected White (Anglo) candidates to represent them on the City Council. Though I never agreed with their politics, they were Robert "Bob" Thompson (a San Antonio lawyer, UTSA professor and a really aggressive and talented fighter pilot serving with the Texas Air National Guard's 149th Fighter Group (now Wing), and Patty Radle, a woman I am grateful who never ran for office in my district.
In San Antonio . . . your race, ethnicity only gets you so far. Can't judge the rest of the nation.
Our present mayor is a young Mexican-by-descent upper and comer in the Democratic Party. He replaced an old white guy who was turned out of office only because we have term limits.
Don't know how they count themselves to the census, but our City has been for awhile by ethnicity a majority held by Spanish surnamed representatives.
What I do know is they hired a White woman as City Manager, and offered her a crazy benefit package to keep her here. Even I think she has done a great job.
The Latino/Mexican dominated City Council hired a White man to be our Chief of Police.
Most telling of all . . . in every judicial race where an incumbent Democratic Judge was contested, the county replaced him or her with a Republican. EVERY RACE.
I am so proud to live in San Antonio, Texas!
What is often overlooked are the Asian and other so-called minorites in San Antonio and how they participate in all aspects of our city's life.
Too bad.
R.
I wish the Old Dominion could do better than the two kneepadders we have in the Senate. Both are sh*tting on themselves with glee over repealing DADT. Sorry, America.

Both houses of congress in the new session should pass a rule that no bill is in order until a budget and all authorization and appropriations bills are passed, unless by 3/4 votes of each body. In addition, a bill may not contain any language not germain to the purpose of the legislation. Might as well throw earmarks in there too.
“been on the phone for the last two days...”
Thank you, thank you, thank you...
I’m surprise you think faggots in the military will be made to work. It’s already much worse even with DADT than before the DADT compromise. Have you read any of the articles below?

There. I fixed it.
exactly right.
This is an example of how the evil demorats call good evil and evil good. And the good conservatives suffer the hateful attacks of slander, lies and persecution by these evil liars.

I wish DC would just disappear and all the filthy dems and rinos go into never never land so they can build their evil world by themselves.
They would hate it of course.
Quit bashing Sarah.
“Quit bashing Sarah.”
I am not bashing her or Mike Huckabee. I am trying to get them to stand for what is morally right and opposed the further homosexualization of the military. Principles they both are supposed to hold. They need to put those principles to work NOW before it is too late. They both have the influence to make a difference.
However, if they can’t be persuaded to take a CURRENT stand right now when it is needed most, then as a moral conservative (Christian Evangelical), I don’t see how I can support them in the 2012 primary. Maybe there are others, yet to be revealed, that can do the right thing on this issue. I have previously supported both of these candidates because I believed we shared values...and not just on moral issues. However, to me, moral issues come first. Get those right, and everything else falls into place.
