"Don't Ask, Don't Tell," DREAM Act, Head to Senate for Votes This Weekend
CBS News ^ | December 17, 2010 | Lucy Madison

After abandoning on Thursday night a $1.3 trillion omnibus Senate spending bill, Democratic Senate Leader Harry Reid filed cloture for the DREAM Act and a stand-alone repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" - both of which are now expected to reach the Senate for final votes as early as this weekend.

Reid, faced with receding Republican support for the spending bill (not to mention threats to read it aloud in its 1,924-page entirety), turned his attention instead to two bills that liberal Democrats hope to push through in the final days of the lame duck congressional session.

The Senate is now expected to vote on debate for both the DREAM Act and a repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" on Saturday morning, and the Washington Post reports that final votes on both bills could take place as early as Sunday or Monday.

The Saturday vote on "Don't Ask" will be Senate Democrats' third attempt this year to eliminate the policy, which prohibits openly gay men and women from serving in the military, and many believe it the best - and possibly last - chance to repeal the measure before a newly Republican-heavy Congress convenes in 2011.

Realistically the government isn’t going to round up 20 million illegals and deport them. What’s the solution?

Secure our borders first, criminal prosecution for employing illegals, maybe a National ID Card, what else.

I understand the hardships of the children and seek a fair solution but to step ahead of the cart and grant legal status to ALL illegal’s using the loopholes in this bill would be ‘national suicide’.

Generations of families have sent their sons and daughters to war, giving the ultimate sacrifice for the liberties we so blessedly receive. The freeloaders, leaches and ones with no love of our country will be the last nail, no need for START.

To grant amnesty to 20 million lawbreakers would cause destruction from within,’ USA would be toast’. This is OUR country, obey OUR laws or be prosecute, illegal or not…

NO AMNISTY !

If queers want to serve openly in the military, let’s put them all in the same unit, send them to the fiercest fighting, repeat as necessary.

You can deport them through attrition. Cut off the endless benefits and freebies illegals get and they will leave. Cut off the job mkt.

nail on head

voting to repeal is sick and the GOP should have walked out and said we will not let the idiots who have been voted out to now vote on a future the public does not want.

still on the phone and will not let up till the votes are over, I have 3 others too calling at my house, going through all the RINO’s is frustrating but worth it.
They need to hear the majority not the special interest queer groups.

agree.
the media are sick and are in support of the queer agenda, they want queers to be treated if they were normal.
That is why they never show their freak parades, never tell the public about issues like fisting being taught in schools.

The commie agenda said back decades ago that they had to promote the homosexuals agenda and ruin the traditional family in order to ruin America from within,

So for all you trolls who are ignorant and say you have no problem with homosexuals because you have a friend who is queer then you’re supporting that commie agenda so don’t ever say you are anything but queer lover.’

They have not mention Manning or why he did it to take away attention from their real agenda, even on here people still keep saying about wikileaks but never mention the queer who started all of this.

You made a good point about who controls what.
It would please them a great deal when we are destroyed from within and by the homosexual agenda and to think we have people saying they’re conservative and saying they have no problem with the commie queer marriage etc
