China Says N.Korea Has Right to Nuclear Power
Beijing says North Korea has the right to use nuclear power but should be subject to inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency. The North recently agreed to the return of IAEA inspectors to nuclear facilities.
"China's position is that the North also has the right to use nuclear power in accordance with the principles of denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the Sept. 19, 2005 joint statement and that it is also subject to the IAEA's inspection," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said Tuesday.
She was commenting on a visit to Pyongyang by New Mexico governor Bill Richardson, who said the North told him it is willing to readmit the inspectors. "China has always supported contact between North Korea and the U.S.," she said. "China hopes such contacts can be beneficial to the resumption of six-party talks and an appropriate solution to relevant issues."
Richardson arrived in Beijing on Tuesday morning winding up a visit that started last Thursday. "I noticed a pragmatic attitude on their part, a more realistic attitude," he told reporters. "When I pushed hard for non-retaliation, I saw a little bit of movement in a positive direction." He said that the North showed a flexible attitude by "pulling back" in response to South Korea's artillery drill on Yeonpyeong Island Monday. This was an expression of readiness for dialogue and important progress, he added.
Time to give up on China. How could we effectively inspect all NK nuke facilities when we don’t know how many are there or where they are?
Where’s Hans Blix when we need him?
Where your Free Trade dollars end up...Communist China supporting Kim Jong-Il
Supporters of Free Trade with Communist China are Communists.
NK is to china as gaza is to iran. A useful thorn to stick in the face of their enemy.
Hmmmm ...
and all our debt ...
hmmmm, (again) ....
and half our land ....
Hmmmm ....
Thanks to technology we, meaning the "west", pretty much have this problem solved. But neutralizing these threats is another matter.
Inspecting them? Fuhgeddaboutit...never gonna happen.
I feel like the old man in the Beer Garden scene in Cabaret where the Germans are falling for the same, old thing ... again.
We have always known that China and Russia are are mortal enemies. Trusting them is foolish and downright dangerous.
It’s time we just take out Kim Il and his crazy grandson. But I don’t think Nobama will do it, we need Prsident Palin to teach them who is boss.
Many of them are deep underground below thick granite rock. I am sure the west can locate many of them. However, I suspect that there are just as many sites which escape detection.
Fine. How about placing some power lines on your reactor you said was for electricity. Then, you can have lighting/power in all the Nork homes so they can look in their empty refrigerators.
Thanks TigerLikesRooster.
All this trade bought us is a jump-started China by 40 to 50 years. Who could have seen this coming?
...steam coming from my ears!
Now we have an intransigent China that has been modernized thanks to the free-traitors.
We will have to live with a hair trigger North Korea that can do China’s dirty work. It will bristle while China sits there like a Choir boy laughing their ass off.
We seriously screwed up allowing things to get to this point.
I agree. It is a monumental mistake. Sometimes I am just amazed by the sheer magnitude of human stupidity. All that expertise and experience cannot stop it. My faith on mankind has been dropping for last decade or so. This is the lesson I won’ forget.

I said on another thread that there has been more damage done to our nation this two month period than has ever been perpetrated on us by other nations.
While we have suffered great losses in the past, this has set in motion the destruction of our nation. I am that strident in my objection to what is taking place right now.
Rights belong only to individuals, not nations. And how can any nation that violates the rights of its citizens have any claim to any rights for itself?
