Democrats Slam Boehner for Missing Arizona Memorial Service
The Daily Caller ^ | 1/12/11 | Jon Ward

Democrats on Wednesday criticized House Speaker John Boehner for missing a memorial service in Arizona for the victims of Saturday’s shooting in Tucson, as partisan sniping continued around the edges of the attack and its aftermath.

Boehner declined an invitation from President Obama to fly on Air Force One to Arizona for the memorial. Aides said he did so to attend a prayer service in Washington in remembrance of the six killed and 14 wounded. Among the wounded was Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, an Arizona Democrat who survived a point blank shot to the head.

The prayer service Boehner attended began at 1 p.m. on Wednesday and lasted for one hour. Obama departed Andrews Air Force base in Maryland a few minutes after 1 p.m.

But Democrats said Boehner could have attended the rally in Tucson if he had wanted to.

“Don’t you think they could have worked with the White House on timing to make sure he got on AF1?,” a senior congressional aide said. “Hell, as speaker, he could have taken a delegation to Arizona on military air.”

I am glad, for him and the GOP, that he refrained from lending his presence to an obvious political event held under the cover of a “memorial service”.

The venue itself - a branch of academia - was selected BECAUSE OF its guaranteed favorable audience response to the politics and political-image of events as Obama would present them.

“Hell, as speaker, he could have taken a delegation to Arizona on military air.”

Can't think of a better example of the continuing complete sense of entitlement that the Dems exhibited when they were running the House (iow, "PelosiAir").

That Boehner DIDN'T demand military transport speaks volumes to the positive change in attitudes in the GOP leadership.

Come on, Boehner, let them know that when there’s a real memorial you will attend but to take part in that pep rally would have been obscene.

It is important. The Republicans staying firm on their plans to cut the budget and roll back some of the excesses of the Obama regime are the important things.

We need to stop being accomplices to the media in prolonging this ridiculous discussion about the Giffords shooting. Do not respond about Palin’s “blood libel” metaphor. Get off the topic. As long as we keep returning serve, the left will keep on with it. Enough!!!

Well, Big Sis was the former governor of Arizona, but Holder?

Hell, Holder and his band of pussy-azz "prosecutors" are part of the reason for this Demo-rat pep rally in the first place! If they and Sheriff Numb-nuts were doing their jobs properly, this whack job would have been in a rubber condo instead of living in Mommy & Daddy's basement all this time.

From Article: "But Democrats said Boehner could have attended the rally in Tucson if he had wanted to."

Yes he could have, but he chose to stay and attend a MEMORIAL.

You are correct. The fact that they had t-shirts pre-printed with slogans on them demonstrates - once again - that this is pathological to Democrats. They can NEVER resist any opportunity to politicize any event.

Tell me, how this this demonstration ANY different from the Westboro demonstrators? A bit more subtle, but that's it. No difference.

I am surprised Obama did not pass the plate.

Oh You didn't see the prepaid envelopes they passed out? (I'm joking about that but we can bet there was quite a bit of fund raising going in the wings.)

He is 3rd in line for the Presidency. Biden is out the country, it was probably a security issue.

It turned out to be a pep rally; he probably attended a service that was truly a dignified memorial service.

I'll bet Boehner would attend the funeral of most Congressmen.

This was not a funeral for Giffords.
