Who reads FR? How many accounts on FR? What does FR stand for? Where is FR going?

Edited on 01/19/2011 10:21:38 AM PST by Jim Robinson. [history]

I'm placing this in breaking news, because there have been several breaking news complaint threads recently. Guess there are a lot of people not understanding the facts about FR, or what we stand for, where we're going, etc.

First of all, who reads FR and how many accounts do we have? I honestly have no idea and the exact number does not concern me. We currently have over 369,000 registered accounts on FR, but as someone pointed out yesterday, not all of them are active and I have no idea how many are active.

Many years ago we had less than 30,000 accounts registered. Then we hit a hundred thousand, a hundred fifty thousand, then two hundred thousand and three or four years ago we approached and went over 300,000. Every few years as we hit a major milestone in registered accounts, I updated our home page with the current number of accounts on FR. I'll probably do it again after we go over 400,000, then 500,000, etc, and maybe I won't. The number of registered accounts doesn't really mean much. And our growth in the last few years has tapered off anyway for various reasons.

Who actually reads FR? Again, we have no idea, but there are hundreds of thousands maybe even millions of readers. All kinds of people read FR. News hounds, liberals, conservatives, politicians, talk show hosts, religious types, atheists, you and me brother and everyone in between. We serve over 1,000,000 pageviews per day.

So why has our growth tapered off? Well, probably the primary reason is we've narrowed our point of view lately as we've moved away from just talking about the issues and have actually started becoming constitutional activists.

The time for talking is over. Now we need to walk the walk. Our focus has become closer to working on our primary goal which is a return to constitutionally limited government and a full restoration of our God-given unalienable rights.

We can't do that by being big tent, all things to all people, non-principled, two-talking politicians. If we are truly interested in advancing our traditional conservative pro-God, pro-family, pro-life, pro-country, pro-liberty principles and positions then we must reject the politicians and people supporting the other way.

As an organization, we cannot be both for and against homosexuality, abortion, big government, border and national security, etc. I don't know about others, but if we must choose, I choose to be on the right side of each and every issue. Why should FR use its limited resources to allow liberals, homosexualists, abortionists, big spenders, big taxers, big government solutions advocates, gun grabbers, pacifists, isolationists, environmentalists, open-borders lobbyists, etc, ply their trade on FR? Well, more and more lately, we don't. And, apparently, that has pissed off a lot of big tent, true blue RINO types and the herd is stampeding. Let them go.

We who share our common traditional conservative principles, values and goals will be better off in the long run. We need to build on our strengths and attract more traditional conservatives to our viewpoints than to water down and weaken our own. It just doesn't make sense to me to support politicians like Giuliani, Romney, Gingrich, et al, who have RINO/liberal track records. It doesn't make sense to allow abortionists, homosexualists, gun-grabbers, big-government solutionists, etc, to have free rein on FR to target and lambast us daily with their repugnant bile. Let them go.

FR will continue on the traditional God, family, country, life and liberty path. If it means fewer accounts or less growth, so be it. If it means we receive fewer in donations, so be it. We will adapt, improvise and overcome and I believe prosper (God willing) in the long run. And, hopefully, someday we can say that we helped restore our beloved republic and our Liberty!

***but, but, but I’m a big tent republican

I’m a big tent republican.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1821435/posts?page=6245#6245
Here’s an analogy to work with. Take a small box and fill it with some rocks. Then add some rice, filling it to the top. Now take all the same stuff, but in a different order. Put in the rice first, then add the rocks. What you’ll find is that if you put in the big stuff first, the small stuff will fit around it. But if you put in the small stuff first, the big stuff won’t have room. The republican tent is the box. The Big issues are the socon issues, to be put in first. The little issues are things that can be accommodated around the bigger stuff. A candidate who tries to focus on the smaller issues first and leave out the bigger issues has no way of getting all of us into the tent. He splits the party. The candidate who gets the big stuff right and as much of the little stuff that will fit, he can fit more into the tent. We’re often amazed at how much rice can keep fitting in. Rudy Giuliani flunks some of the big issues, and on some of the little issues it looks to me like anyone else’s rice would do just as well. All that remains for us to agree on is which are the bedrock principles and which are not. Why would there be so much invective aimed at rudy from the right? Because there are some bedrock principles that he is leaving out. Bad move. I see rudybot postings all the time saying that they would vote for Hunter, and I see socon postings that say they would not vote for rudy. That’s a BIG indicator of a few bedrock principles that are being left outside the tent in order to let in some rice.

BTW, the only candidate I have seen in 30 years worthy of the Reagan Mantle is Sarah Palin.

Then you might like this photo of Jim Robinson and friend. :)

Well said.

Of course there is a difference IMO between the homosexuals I know (family and friends) who go about their lives versus the homosexuals who flaunt their lifestyle and demand that we accept it and change one of the most basic foundations of human civilization (marriage) to accomidate their lifestyle. The Republicans who want to give up in social issues don’t understand that family structure and economics are LINKED !

I remember the day I met Jim. My son drove me all the way to D.C. for the House Manager’s Rally and dinner. Got to meet a lot of Freepers as well as Congressmen. It was a great event. I was cleaning out a closet just yesterday and cam across one of our poster’s for the event. Remember the one of George Washington with the tear drop? I had collected autographs from all those congressmen, but the one I am most proud of is Jim Robinson, and second is Henry Hyde.

FR has been my home-page for as long as I've been online--starting back sometime in '98--and it is my main source for news and commentary! It has truly been a wonderful blessing for me, as I know it has for so many fellow freepers!

So--God bless the "founding fathers" of this FreeRepublic, and all those who defend and support her!

Correct. Freerepublic cannot be "these are my principles. If you don't like them, I got others"

it is not possible to be liberal and be conservative, so they are out

I like the key word you used "homosexualISTS" -- FR is not against those who have the tendency, but against those who want to have gay pride parades and destroy traditional marriage
abortionists = supporting killing babies <> conservatives.
big, big, big -- all three are against conservative values
environmentalISTs --> again the same point of the above ISTS. A true conservative 'conserves' the environment but doesn't believe in big govt telling them what to do and is not going to make a religion out of it

it’s good to know that sites like this are about. I’ve given up getting my news from even FOX and talk radio for the most part now as they have all become cowards when it comes to social conservatism.
They run away from the homomafia and live in fear of being called a name by a corrupt MSM.

Conservatism is not just fiscal it is social too and the backbone of this country has always been family, a traditional family. The left knows this and this is why they refer back to rules 25 /26 etc from their rule book.
http://www.uhuh.com/nwo/communism/comgoals.htm.

The media have been infiltrated as has many churches.
Places like this still stand against them and let us hope that all of us will stand together and fight the left back to where we get our country back. Not just talk or debate but get more active like Jim has said.

Yes they have tried all the time and will try to infiltrate this site but a good cleaning out like Jim did got rid of many. They’ll come back I’m sure under a different name pretending to a conservative but will say that two men together were born like that or we have to stop with the social talk as it will not help us. bla bla bla.

Imagine instead of your local rep getting 5 calls about a bill he or she now gets 1,000 calls from us off here a day.
You can bet he or she will take notice. This is what the left does and especially the homomafia thus making it look like a bill is popular when it it not.

Thanks for the ;ping suunshine
