Washington (CNN) There may be two House Republicans giving high-profile responses to President Obama's State of the Union speech on Tuesday night, but House Majority Leader Eric Cantor made it clear that it's the new House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, not Minnesota Rep. Michelle Bachmann, who is speaking for the GOP.
"Paul Ryan is giving the official response," Cantor said when asked at his weekly session with reporters if Bachmann's response will step on the GOP message.
After House Speaker John Boehner and Senator GOP Leader Mitch McConnell announced on Friday that Ryan would deliver the GOP response, the Tea Party Express put out word that Rep. Bachmann would also be commenting on the President's speech and they would broadcast her remarks on their website. On Monday, her office welcomed network television coverage of her speech, which will be delivered from the Capitol Hill Club, just steps away from the U.S. Capitol campus.
Lumping Rep. Bachmann in with the rest of the entire membership of Congress, Cantor said, "You know Michelle Bachmann, just like the other 534 members of the House and Senate, are going to have opinions as to the State of the Union." The House Majority Leader added, "This is a process that happens every year and I look forward to all comments," and noted again that Ryan's was the official Republican response to the president.
Pressed by CNN that unlike most other members of Congress, Bachmann's remarks were expected to receive similar televised coverage as Ryan's official response, Cantor laughed, and asked, "Then maybe I should ask why is that the case?"

Bachmann and Ryan together could save the Republic.
Cantor is a dolt.
I agree, this is a ploy by CNN, and hopefully conservatives won’t fall for it by pretending there are sides to be chosen between Bachmann and Cantor.
Then Ryan it is. I’m a huge admirer of Bachmann, but IMHO by giving an “alternate” rebuttal she’s doing no one but the democrats any favors.

And frankly, I think Cantor was poking CNN, not tea partiers, when he said the real question was why CNN would elevate a particular representatives web response to national prominence, when they’ve never offered that for any other caucus leader or other representative before.
He is a wave of RINO and a minute dab of leadership. He is a weak sister and he needs to go ASAP.
Sissy girl responses from Cantor. What a silly putz.
I don’t think she’s doing that. She offered to do a web response for the tea party crew — she is a tea party caucus leader, so it makes sense.
The tea party group has a reason to promote her speech, because it makes them look more important. But that’s their right. It’s CNN that is playing them by offering to broadcast it, for what appears to be the obvious reason — to try to split republicans, muddy the message, and hopefully get some juicy tidbit showing republicans are crazy right-wingers that they don’t expect they’ll get from Ryan.
Who cares ....they are both speaking and I will listen to both. If Ryan has indeed been selected as spokesman...then fine...we’re making mountains out of Molehills.
It is Cantor doing favors for Democrats...joking with the MSM that they should not cover Bachmann.
She said no such thing in reverse...she will never do favors for Dems.
CNN trying to make it either/or.
it’s not. it’s both.
Bachmann is the voice I want to hear from— she’s closer to what I want from congress.
Well we see how well that's going on this thread. People jump too quick when the media wants them to jump.
Exactly. I would agree that Cantor was more than likely poking fun at CNN but they were sneaky in how they present it. The sound bite is their weapon and they will use it to their advantage to twist the message.
I’ve yet to see a SOTU rebuttal that was worth a sh*t. Maybe Bachmann will get it right.
The real conservative here is Michelle Bachmann. Cantor is too much a RINO to select a real conservative to give the reply.
Remember that the House Republicans refused to support Bachmann in 2008 after she made those accurate comments about Muslims on MSNBC. The RINO establishment does not like Bachmann

Respectfully... bullshit.

They asked Chris Christie to give the reply. He declined.
Cantor nor REyan speakfor me!!!
They both need to be taken out in 2012!!
Rubio did the same today, by refusing to attend the TP caucus...he laughingly states that he is only refusing because he knows what is best for the TP, ie, they must go home and remain grassroots...get out of DC please!
LOL
That is his real reason for not showing up for the Tea Party meetings in DC. Rubio is just as bad as Crist.....and people really need to wake up about Rubio
Damn straight he should!
