This is all bad - no good outcome. This isn't a riot/rebellion for liberty, it is an uprising for the advancement of Islam and oppression. I hold no quarter for Mubarak - it is all varying shades of Islam.

The Coptic Christians and other non Muslims will be persecuted, eradicated or expelled under the Muslim Brotherhood, and will be the recipients of a backlash from the rioters if indeed the MB is suppressed.

“I’m always quick to point out that the Civil War was NOT popular and fought by only 30% of the population at the time.”

Hell, the American Revolution was much the same way: 1/3 supported it, 1/3 opposed it, and 1/3 straddled the fence and just wanted it all to leave them alone.

alJz report

Egyptian TV are not showing the violence, etc. They are reporting the curfew, etc., but not showing scenes from the streets.

Sorry, I remember those days. We can increase our own gas and oil reserves to survive the same “74” embargo.

URGENT: Thousands of protesters try to storm Egypt’s foreign ministry and state TV buildings in Cairo as soldiers open fire on anti-government demonstrators who defy the mandatory curfew.

I’m shocked at what I’m seeing people here say, too. Either it’s a short memory problem, or a failure to learn the lessons that were so hard-earned in Iran.

“This isn’t about who we like- it’s about the oil that still drives the economies of the globe.”

So the ships take another route. Sheesh, get a grip everyone. Even Islamist regimes are as hungry for money as the rest of us. The canal is in no longterm danger. If we are going to climb into bed with these types of people rather than take actions to get free of their resources, we have to be ready for disruptions from time to time.

Curfew has now been imposed on entire country. Mubarak still has not addressed the nation.

” If Mubarak leaves then we won’t have to support one of Israels enemies anymore.

Why does the USA support Egypt at all? “

What we’ve bought with our aid to Egypt has been an effective arms blockade of Hamas in Gaza.... And Mubarak’s one saving grace is that he’s an ‘honest politician - he stays bought’.....

As someone pointed out upthread, there’s ‘Bad’ (support of a Dictator) and ‘Worse’ (opening the pipeline for a flood of Iranian arms - and forces? - to Israel’s REAL enemies...)

HUH.
You think that the muslim brotherhood is better tha this Govt, surely you’re joking?

We are looking at a new Govt which will close down the Suez, destabilize the area and this is really bad for the entire region.

“Hilary Clinton has said what happens in Egypt will ultimately be determined by the Egyptians”

I read that to mean, we are not going to get involved because we don’t know what to do, anyway

I wonder if Mubarak is packing up his gold

Here may be a chance to find out how good al Qaeda really is at community organizing

CNN talking heads discussing impending end of Mubarek rule and possible military rule, as in Turkey, as an interim step.

CNN showing protesters in front of Information Ministry. Small fires. People milling about. Some gun fire. Similar protests around Cairo.

http://hotair.com/archives/2011/01/28/egypt-in-flames-ruling-partys-headquarters-burning-in-cairo-after-massive-protests/

Update: Egyptian police reportedly grabbed CNN’s camera and beat the hell out of a BBC reporter. In Iran, however, the media is as pleased as can be by what’s happening. The end of Mubarak means the end of the cold peace between Egypt and Israel in all likelihood, plus lots of new arms smuggled to Iran’s proxy in Gaza. What’s not to like?
