We had a pilot in my flying squadron who’s name was Major Upp. Guess what his nickname was: That’s right> “Tits”
And for an Ensign to have that many ribbons, he had to be prior enlisted for several years.
“How is this man an ensign?”
Prior enlisted service. I believe he said he had been in for 16 years.
It is not uncommon for persons with over ten years of enlisted service to apply for and receive a commission once they get a college degree. The pay for even the lowest officers is better than most enlisted grades.
That's something definitely on the minds of the more responsible Australians, and you're right could very well be an entire thread itself. Currently the Australian Labor Party is in power - they're the analogue to the Marxist-infiltrated Democratic Party here. A major selling point of Kevin Rudd, the prime minister before the current one took control in an intra-party coup, was that he spoke Mandarin Chinese. Benefits from that are yet to be seen, if there were any at all. The coalition in opposition is an analogue to the Republicans here (though the leading member of that coalition is called the Liberal Party as an allusion to classical liberalism), and they're generally, and correctly, considered better on defense and national security. World's most populous Mohammadan country and neighbor close enough in places to swim to, Indonesia, is another concern.
But what do we know...
An argument for doing away with the draft and having an all volunteer force was our tradition of citizen soldiers. That argument may or may not have really been a good one against the draft, but it's something we have to consider now, and take charge ourselves as citizens, direct our representatives to do what's right on this if they don't already know themselves. Civilian control of the military puts that responsibility on us, so any civilian who listens to what the military needs to complete its mission should be speaking at least twice as loud. Serving military can't without risking subordination.
I served in the Navy (I am female) and was married to an aviator (USMC). NAS Chase Field, VT-25 (Beeville, TX) training base for Navy and Marine jet jocks. Those aviators were a wild bunch. OY the stories I could tell — saw a lot. Didn’t know any gay ones. Fun memories though.
The other problem is during the deployment keeping the the males and females from having sex with each other. There is a general order number 1 and part of it states that a male cannot be in a females room and a female cannot be in a males room. So if someone is accused of violating this you have to take time and investigate and then punish the offenders. It is a distraction from the purpose of the military which is to fight and win the nations wars.
Dont trust my recollection, though. I also remember marksmen in the rigging.
Now that right there,... that’s funny.
Crappy article—the ensign is an LDO and former chief petty officer (note his age—37). You would think that someone who had made it to chief would have his head screwed on straight—gay or not.
I respectfully disagree, CholeraJoe...
LOL. Most here don’t know what it means when someone calls Obama Carter II or that song.
You know, when I read this earlier I thought maybe Congress should pass either the RAGE Act (Retaliation Against Gay Ensigns) or the RAPE Act (Retaliation Against Pussy Ensigns) depending on how the DADT repeal deploys.
Yep. That frikking guy is an embarrassment to not just naval officers, but men everywhere.
