I’m just not convinced this is going to end up as nicely as many seem to think.

The Egyptian Army is constrained from entering the Sinai by the Camp David Treaty.

Are there US troops on the UN peacekeeper mission this rotation? Hope not.

“Israel has shared these concerns with its allies, as well as on a personal level between Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Adm. Michael Mullen.”

Wondering if the lip service was at least pleasant.

This must be at least one of the things Obama talked about in a phone call tonight to Egyptian Field Marshal Tantawi, defense minister and head of military high council.

Maybe he was talking about modeling Egypt after Indonesia as he has been reading up on. First it’s not his business. and Second....

Hmmmm the President of the US of America wants to model another country after (not the US, but..) Indonesia. Wow, something is seriously wrong with this picture.

The implication is that Egypt cannot deploy troops in the Sinai without Israel's permission.

The sentence "additional requests since then have been rejected" is unclear--was Israel requesting that the troops be deployed and Egypt was saying no, or did Egypt want to send in more troops and Israel said no?

It's always been a lawless area--even Moses broke all the ten commandments when he was there.

I remember the woman who was ululating and handing out sweets after 3000 Americans, including children, died on 9/11. When I hear Obama talk about ‘the people’ this comes to mind. The fact is that we are all people, and some of us want to live and let live, while others want to force themselves and their ideology upon us. Sometimes, for a variety of reasons, the ‘majority’ in specific societies or nations want to hurt or destroy others. When this happens, the ‘will of the people’ is not acceptable. It's certainly not a simple matter, but I think it's very simplistic to think that the will of the people is always consistent with what is moral and what is right.

ADM Mike Mullen isn't going to recommend we do anything for the Israelis and neither is his master Barak Hussein Obama. Israel will have to warm up the weapons and confirm targeting coordinates, then launch a preemptive strike like the 1967 War. Israel will be on its own in this war.

“The implication is that Egypt cannot deploy troops in the Sinai without Israel’s permission.”

According to the treaty, Egypt will not deploy large forces
in Sinai without Israel’s consent.

Israel should never have given up the Sinai after the Yom Kippur War in ‘73.
