Montana's governor encourages ranchers to kill wolves

BILLINGS, Mont. — Defying federal authority over gray wolves, Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer on Wednesday encouraged ranchers to kill wolves that prey on their livestock -- even in areas where that is not currently allowed -- and said the state would start shooting packs that hurt elk herds.

Schweitzer told the Associated Press he no longer would wait for federal officials to resolve the tangle of lawsuits over wolves, which has kept the animals on the endangered species list for a decade since recovery goals were first met.

"We will take action in Montana on our own," he said. "We've had it with Washington, D.C., with Congress just yipping about it, with [the Department of the] Interior just vacillating about it."

What do wolves contribute to the human race?

You insensitive human, you. Wolves and all animals would be much better off with out man. The whole planet would. Besides we must protect endangered species because they may hold the key to a cure for cancer. Those are the two main liberal arguments, man bad but we may find a cancer cure to keep bad men alive. Contradictory? I said they were liberal arguments so that is to be expected.

Good for Gov. Schweitzer!

Had it not been for enviro nazis and federal judge Molloy siding with them the wolves in MT and ID would not be on the ESL.

Wolves are decimating elk populations and becoming more of a hazard to livestock, they need thinning.

I saw a rather disturbing story last night about coyotes. A young woman had been attacked and partially eaten by 3 coyotes who were subsequently killed. According to the story, coyotes have never been known to kill adult humans. It appears now that these and some other coyotes have cross bread with wolves and produced a larger, more predatory and dangerous coyote. Also, we now have urban coyotes everywhere, even in Central Park, NY City. Very good at hiding, seldom seen even though they are there.

Hmmm...I wonder if Letterman owns a ranch or a farm? Libs generally have to be mugged by reality before they “get it.”

Isn’t the irony delicious?

Yes it is. I can't understand why more nanny states don't jump into the states rights issues, like Colliefoornia. Legalize dope, illegals(oxymroron?), rump ranger weddings and the like. What could go wrong??? Besides every decent human being within the state beating feet outta there at best speed heading for more traditional stomping grounds.

Libtards have made judge shopping an art form. God only knows what two more years of appointments by the illegal in the white hut will do.

Damn I love it when States start to take action in defiance of Federal Rules... It’s about time that they stand up to silly and stupid laws made by the Federal Government.

Yep. Gotta love it. More and more states are telling the Feds to shove it on various issues and it’s great.

A rising Canadian singer was killed by coyotes in a national park in Nova Scotia...

Taylor Mitchell, 19, was at the beginning of the Skyline Trail in Cape Breton Highlands National Park

“Defying federal authority over gray wolves”

On what basis do the feds regulate this? Do wolves engage in commerce across state lines? How much is it to buy rabbit skin off a gray wolf? 1.5 deer livers?

Hell yes! This is anther classic example of Eastern/Urban disconnect with serous Western/Rural problems.

Urban liberals see the wolfs some “special” endangered species threaten by man. Rural westerns who actually live with the wolfs see the wolfs more realistically as a threat to themselves, their children, and their livelihood.

But still Eastern/urban Liberals are determined to Butt in from more then a 1000 miles away as if they know best. In the end they just end up hurting people out here.

I salute Montana for finally having the moral fortitude to stand up to this unfair and destructive madness.

“They are twice as smart and strong as big dogs”

They may be techinically smarter, I don’t know. But dogs are more civilized. They save all their energy for manipulating us into giving them cushy lives.

Thanks.

Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer says the state will defy federal protections for gray wolves and kill packs that have been hurting elk herds.

Schweitzer is encouraging livestock owners north of Interstate 90 to shoot wolves that harass their animals. He says state game wardens would stop investigating wolf shootings in that part of the state.

Livestock owners in southern Montana already have authority to shoot wolves that harass their animals

This is a part of farming reality - no wonder the federal politicians are clueless.

Heh. Maybe it’s under the “Good and Welfare Clause” that the career politician, husband to local crook and always eloquent, John Conyers(D MI) referred to.

Don’t worry. By this time next year the States will have the Federal Government paralized in the courts. JMHO

And 0bamacare is going to add to the paralysis. Wait and see how many class action lawsuits against the Feds start surfacing. The waivers alone are enough to get things going once they try and implement this atrocity.
