Saudi Arabia's interior ministry says protests are illegal, following calls for demonstrations demanding change in the ultra-conservative kingdom.
'Regulations in the kingdom forbid categorically all sorts of demonstrations, marches and sit-ins ... as they contradict Islamic sharia law and the values and traditions of Saudi society,' a statement carried by SPA state news agency said on Saturday.
Police are 'authorised by law to take all measures needed against those who try to break the law,' the statement added.

Our own little usuper stirs up protests now, but just wait until closer to the next election. If things don’t go his way, he’ll declare them illegal here.
That is what is coming. Not if but when.

The most endangered job in a sharia society...community organizer.
The English cannot decide whether they want Regal Mob Rule or Democratic Mob Rule.. so they mix them.. Canada is only a little less loopy than England.. China has their MOB and India theirs.. and in Russia a different MOB.. but Mob Rule pretty much Rules this planet.. Libya and Egypt are currently changing Mobs.. but the result will mostly the same..
America is deciding NOW if a Mob is the wisest choice for rule.. America has been rule by Mobs since the Civil War..
Two choices here... Pray for America.. or choose a MOB..
The Saudis won’t be too leery about using force. They’re a closed society and lucky for them, the world media has no Tahrir Square to report from.

....AND with 10-12 Million barrels of oil a day the oil price can easily go to $150-$200 a barrel, crushing world economies. So calls for ‘respecting human rights’ will be followed by US /EU shipping them tear gas and bullets ;)
If the population riots for abolition of Sharia, then THAT would be something to see.
I cannot see an uprising happening in Saudi Arabia like what has been happening in North Africa.
$8.00/gal. That’s the European level of prices Obama promised us all when he campaigned for office.
Conventional wisdom has been the Saudi people are full of radicals kept at bay by the Saudi royal family, themselves afraid of an uprising that could lurch the country towards an Iranian-style regime.
Many of the Saudi royals are western educated and they walk a fine line between doing what's best for their country in working with the West and appeasing the street radicalism that threatens their gov't and stability.
The belief is the population most certainly would not be rioting for a kumbayah liberal western style democracy. If they were, there might be less concern about oil supply disruption.
NO, if the Saudi Royals go you will get the irrational jihadists. The Saudi Royals are, above all, interested in living, they want their virgins in this world.
That’s ok, as long as I get my Social Security check. LOL.
they contradict Islamic sharia law and the values and traditions of Saudi societyWhen talking about sharia, "law" should always be in quotes. Thanks Kartographer.
The major problem that Saudi Arabia faces is that they are dependent on Westerners to actually get the work done of getting the oil out and make the Kingdom run. When a screw-up can result in explosion, fire, and death, you do NOT want somebody with an "Inshallah" attitude anywhere near things.
If the fundies take over, expect Saudi oil output to plummet.
Don’t hold bsck, csmel jockeys...saw their heads off in front of their families. That is the moozlim way..
