Ominous warnings posted by Kyodo:

BREAKING NEWS: Fukushima nuke plant might be experiencing nuclear meltdown

BREAKING NEWS: Radioactive Cesium detected near Fukushima plant: nuke safety commission

Cesium found outside the plant suggests a reactor may have started melting, as cesium is a byproduct of a nuclear chain reaction.

Japanese officials are urging the public not to panic, saying that a possible meltdown would not affect any humans outside of a six-mile radius of the plant. Not sure if that is going to relieve fears.

Not a problem until the next tsunami washes over the site and spreads it further.

In a worst case scenario of violent radioactive event, radioactive material caught in westerly wind could impact Japan and possible Manchuria China.

This is going to make it harder for the rest of us to have nuclear power.

You know it’s spooky when you have to bring the French in for expertise.

No, blame it on Hiroshima, 1945.

Check this website out from a gal who rides her motorcycle into the restricted area around Chernobyl. I was shocked at the size of the uninhabited zone.

“This is going to make it harder for the rest of us to have nuclear power.”
_______________

Yep. Nukes are great for geologically stable locations, but building them in known earthquake zones is stupid.

This is going to make it harder for the rest of us to have nuclear power.

Lobbyist proactively advocating the dangers of the older designs could make a positive contribution exposing the benefits of newer designs. Clearly the older designs have failed. Embrace that fact; highlight that fact; become an advocate for replacing existing older designs with newer designs to avoid future inevitable failures.

Radioactive iodine—
Anyone know if this kind of nuclear reacort would be relaesing I-131? I have KI at home and so do others

“Historically, I-131 releases have occurred most frequently after incidents involving nuclear reactors (e.g., Chernobyl).”
