Radioactive Cesium detected near fukushima.
Yah, from the vids I’ve watched with cars and buildings being washed away I don’t see how there aren’t tens of thousands gone from the effects. I don’t know, I’m not equipped to calculate that stuff, but they’ll never find a lot of the victims.
I have not been able to wrap my head around this and I bet I don’t get much sleep tonight. This is bad.
I could not get personal over Haiti or New Zealand or Thailand, I got no skin in that game. This hits home for me. I have Japanese people in my life and they are hurting over this. Sucks. Me? Hell, I can go ride my bike tomorrow and enjoy life, but it hits home over here in Garland. We are carrying the weight of what has happened because the blood of those killed and lost flows in the veins of my loved ones.
Sheesh, them Japanese are used to quakes, but this was the Big One.
NHK World: Venting air from reactor container suspended
The operation at Fukushima No.1 plant to lower pressure of the containment vessel has been suspended due to high radiation levels at the site.
Pressure of the reactor container is rising as its cooling system became dysfunctional due to a blackout and power generator breakdown. This has raised concern about possible damage to the container.
The power station’s operator, Tokyo Electric Power Company, began to vent air from the reactor container at 9AM on Saturday.
Under the plan, 2 valves close to the container would be opened manually, but radiation level on the second valve was found higher than expected.
The operation has been suspended because of the possibility that workers could be exposed to radiation. The utility is reportedly studying how to open the valve by replacing workers at a short interval, or using electric remote control.
The Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency says if radioactive substance is released in the air, safety of residents evacuated beyond a 10-kilometer radius from the No.1 reactor will be ensured.

I don’t think it was creatures they were worried about. It was their guides who were very spooked after dark. They wanted no part of it. Maybe they knew something that regular people did not know. You could be right. : (
Yeah now go find the information about the EXTERNAL leak.....In the water...
“Six-mile exclusion zone placed around crippled nuclear reactor as radiation hits 1,000 times safe level”
That’s inside the containment building - no one is being exposed to that level. That’s why they call it the containment building - they are designed to contain the radiation and the pressure rise in case of such an incident. They can vent some of the radiation and pressure in a gradual and controlled way if necessary (if the pressure becomes too high).

The Japanese are resilient, they will rebuild, but in such a densely populated country, it’s hard to imagine that there will be any family left unscathed from this.
She is brave young women for sure ...
My understanding is that the cooling water is evaporating from the heat and building up pressure inside the containment structure.
I've seen two conflicting reports. One said there was successful release of pressure and one said that the effort to relieve the pressure was called off.
[2:19 a.m. ET, 4:19 p.m. Tokyo] A small amount of radioactive Cesium has escaped into the air surrounding a nuclear plant in northeastern Japan’s Fukushima prefecture, Japan’s Nuclear and Industrial Agency said.
The agency said there was a strong possibility that this was caused by the melting of a fuel rod, adding that plant engineers were continuing to cool the fuel rods by pumping water around the rods.
Them Japanese are the hardest of the hard. But take Miyagi or Sendai as an example. Had to be thousands wiped out.
I said it last night and I’ll say it again: NAM MYOHO RENGE KYO.
God, please welcome those killed into your kingdom. You’ll be getting a few more over the next few days because they ain’t all dead yet, some are still trapped under or inside the buildings and in cars in some ditch in a creek somewhere. Have mercy on their souls and give them an easy trip out of this world. Or throw down a miracle and have a few saved, I’m good with that. Dang, this is bad.
Tornados and stuff like that are chump change compared to this catastrophe. And as a Texan, I’ve seen a few twisters.
Breaking: Explosion at Tepco’s Fukushima Daiichi plant heard around 0630 GMT (Rueters) http://live.reuters.com/Event/Japan_earthquake2
Well, that’s not good.
AFP - Explosion heard and White smoke seen at quake hit nuclear plant (Unconfirmed).
Damn, that is very not good considering the high pressure they haven’t been able to control yet.
Fox just confirmed.
Yeah, she sure is. On that ghost hunters show, they all had on those white suits, and could only stay a certain time in the area. You could tell that they were more spooked than they wanted to let on. Where is St. Petersburg from there? My daughter has been invited over there in May by some people she is doing business with. It is for some kind of celebration. Don’t know if she is going or not. I would want her hubby to go with her if she goes. She said those guys could really put away the hard stuff. Some of her guy employees took them out one night. One tried to keep up with them but he was asleep on the couch in her office when she got there the next morning.

I’m hearing there were injuries. Did Fox confirm it was in/at the power plant?
