From the BBC live blog:
2230: The BBC's Caroline Wyatt says the coalition's hope is that by striking hard and fast now, the forces still loyal to Col Gaddafi will think again - and perhaps so will the colonel himself.
2228: BBC defence correspondent Caroline Wyatt says the NATO base at Naples is understood to be the central command for the military operation. She adds that Britain's air contribution may be controlled by the Joint Force Air Component, deployed to its base at Akrotiri in Cyprus.
2221: The BBC's Alan Little in Tripoli says state media had been preparing the Libyan people for the attacks all day by showing footage of the 2003 Iraq invasion.
2217: An un-named French official tells the AFP news agency that the United Arab Emirates has pledged 24 aircraft to the coalition and Qatar between four and six.
2208: Al-Jazeera has said that Libyan authorities have detained a team of its journalists in western Libya, the AP news agency reports. The four correspondents are said to be British, Tunisian, Mauritanian and Norwegian.

go air force!
Watching NBC Nightly News. Obama definitely should have hired Chuck Todd instead of Jay Carney. What an ass.
This is one we needed to stay out of.

Fox reported half an hour ago that British and French Special Ops troops were on the ground, though they did say it was “unconfirmed.”

For zer0 ... Go party ... zer0, you are worthless.
I’d say the reason you attack hard and fast is to blow that ugly ****er right out of the outfit he obviously stole from Michelle Obama...it is not to make him think about anything.
These people do not have a clue what they are doing or why it should be done.
We are in damn deep trouble at this point.
It doesn’t have to be confirmed- we’ve got bombs in the air then we have boots on the ground.
Hey fabian, AS AN AIR FORCE GUY, why did it make sense for France to hit Libya with air attcks, and then, hours later, Tomahawks are launched to make the skies safe for French aircraft?
I still suspect Sarkozy manipulated the the US into this by unilaterally sending jets, forcing an unready Obama into the fray. And maybe that’s a good thing, but it’s my interpretation.
I’m still not believing this is happening- it must be a movie???
Praying you are wrong!

You lost me right there.
Texting Teens on Cellphones have never been a credible source of anything except ignorance.
What is this UN coalition going to do when troops serving under the flag of the UN are captured and or killed? Funny how the left and Obama are suddenly hawks on this elective war in Libya and forget how they torn George Bush a new one when he decided to take on Iraq. This involvement in Libya stinks. Something does not add up
Mohammed Nabbous was one of the courageous voices from Benghazi broadcasting to the world from the beginning. Smart, selfless, brave.

I hasten to remind you all of the “fog of war” and of the Liberal medias propensity for reporting crap that is not even happening, or embelishing upon those things that MAY be happening. As long as there is a remote possibility of us having our men and women in harms way...I will make every effort not to listen to the press...but to defer to the commanders in the field-—and GOD SPEED (and outstanding and accurate aim)to them all!
I don't understand
We are already in a two front war
why open a third front?
A major Allie has had a major natural disaster
And desperately needs help
This is the backyard of
Spain/France/Italy/Saudi Arabian Nations
All of which have significant resources
Why are we there too?
Not a peep from Keith Olbermann...
