Newt Gingrich: I’m not a hypocrite

Pressed on “Fox News Sunday” about his adulterous past, Newt Gingrich said it was not hypocritical for him to impeach Bill Clinton while he cheated on his own wife because he never lied under oath.

“I don’t know what you would have had me do,” he said, getting a little testy, “because…the president of the United States [was] committing perjury. Remember, he’s a lawyer! This was not some accidental thing. And I thought the outcome was about right.”

The all-but-official candidate for the Republican presidential nomination granted that his own extramarital affairs will be an issue in the coming campaign, but he sounded hopeful that voters will, if they don’t forgive or forget, at least look the other way.

“We’ll find out six months or a year from now whether people are forgiving and whether they put in context events that are 10 and 15 years old,” Gingrich said.

The former House speaker from Georgia said it didn’t bother him that he was throwing rocks at Clinton as president while living in his own metaphorical glass house. He said he would have resigned his leadership post if he didn’t think he could go after Clinton for breaking the law.

“It’s not about personal behavior, and it’s not about what he did in the Oval Office,” Gingrich said of his failed 1998 effort to destroy Clinton. “You can condemn that. You can say it’s totally inappropriate. It was about a much deeper and more profound thing: Does the president of the United States have to obey the law?

So he feels his adultery should be put in the past but Bill Clinton's lying shouldn't? Newt committed adultery, Bill committed adultery - the only difference is Bill got caught and lied. What would Newt have done in the same circumstance?

Well the “smartest politician on the public scene IMO” seems
to say and do some pretty dumb things hence this article.
Besides I don’t think America is ready for a
President Newt. I question his conservatism and I question his principals. When you screw around on your spouse you might as well say you lied to all your friends, family and
God when you said “I DO”.

I have never forgiven Newt for siding with the Left as personified by Pelosi in the fraud of "Climate Change," formerly known as "Global Warming." This kind of thinking is destroying America's strength to be energy independent on oil, natural gas, and coal.

Newt did speak out early in 2009 against Obama, who referred to himself as a "citizen of the world." However, of late he has not been on the attack. Newt needs to go back to the classroom and lecture there if he wants. He is not a leader.

You are a horses ass and opportunist but you are correct and did the right thing on Bill.

Bill appropriately impeached for perjury and sanctioned.

Still, he’s living the good life.

“Gingrich: I’m not a hypocrite”

Ya are in my book, Newt. Seriously doubt you’ll ever again win my respect or my vote.

I actually don’t care about his marital issues.

What bothers me more is over the last 10 years he has revealed himself to be an opportunist and a man that has no real core conservative values.

He is one of the smartest men around with an extremely high intellect but I remain unconvinced I should support him.

"Bill committed adultery - the only difference is Bill got caught and lied."

Good grief, not someone here, too. No, the only "difference" is that Clinton broke the law and Gingrich didn't.

Clinton, even though he wasn't convicted, was found in contempt of court, lost his license to practice law and was fined nearly $100K. Other than that, sure, there weren't any differences between what Clinton did and what Gingrich did.

He’s not too smart - he knows the Catholic thinking now and he still doesn’t try to practice it here - to fail happens - and forgiveness is given if asked for, with the promise that he would try his best to never fail again (try). For him to say it wasn’t hypocritical TODAY is as silly and telling as his argument. He should admit the obvious - he fell, he sinned, it was hypocritical, and he promises God he will do his utmost to never do such again. He’s still covering for his sin. That means he still doesn’t get it - he’s hypocritical still, this guy cannot be trusted wherever his skin is at stake.

I’m not interested in Newt running but seriously, He has an extraordinary intellect and would mop the floor with Barry.

Barry’s single skill is to be dismissive as a tool to blunt further discussion and flipping the bird.

Barry is an adolescent smart azz while Newt is a deep thinking “sage”. (kinda tongue in cheek)

Newt, you were amazing and pulled party back from disaster in your day.

But, that was then and now your single biggest flaw was your support of glowbull Whoreing.

Keep on teaching though and I do enjoy hearing your thoughts. Just save your money and time, don’t run.

Pitiful. It's the old “At least I kept my socks on while I was boinking the tramp” excuse. Newt, my former Congressman, go the hell away!

None of us want an adulterer, nor someone who abuses their spouse at their deathbed.

And, I'm goddam tired of hearing about "Callista and me.......".....STFU!

I’ve said several times before, I want Newt to be a close adviser to the next President...I just don’t want him to have any real authority. I would prefer his ideas to be filtered and vetted through some other elected official. Someone whose judgment I trust more than Newt.
