Donald Trump has joined the "birthers," the odd movement that questions President Barack Obama's Hawaii birth certificate. That's a good way for the celebrity billionaire to appear as though he's making a serious run for the Republican presidential nomination, which he says he is considering. It also makes him sound like a secret agent for the Democrats.
That oddly credible possibility has been raised by frustrated conservatives like radio talk-show host John Gibson, who sounded furious earlier this week at the way birthers make Republicans look like the crazy party.
That unfortunate image only hurts the party's chances with the sensible independent swing voters it needs to win general elections. Now Trump is bringing even more attention to the birthers. Surely, Gibson speculated, tongue only partly in cheek, Trump sounds like some sort of RINO, a Republican-in-name-only who's secretly trying to help Obama.
Robert Schlesinger, opinion editor at U.S. News and World Report, similarly asked in a blog whether Trump is "really an Obama sleeper agent."
Indeed, if Obama is not directly supporting Trump, he has good reason to root secretly for the birther movement, whose backing Trump seeks....

Um, they are. How many times in the past few weeks have you seen stories about Trump and birthers? Quite a lot.
Here's a tip: Trump is no conservative and he's bringing up this birther stuff to make conservatives look bad and to divert attention from Obama's failures and the proven ideas of conservatism. Obama has too many other weaknesses we need to concentrate on.

Why is it that you are unable to post a source for your assertion that there was a travel ban on US citizens traveling to Pakistan in 1981?

Whether you can "get your head around this" or not, there are 2 perfectly good reasons Obama doesn't release his birth certificate. The first is he is under no legal obligation to. No court has demanded it. But the primary reason is, the people demanding his BC are his political enemy, many of whom want his political scalp. If I were in his position, I would be disinclined to voluntarily provide evidence to my political opponents whose publicly stated purpose is my removal from office.

Rumor: Americans could not travel to Pakistan in 1981.
Truth: The U.S. Department of State issued Travel Advisory No. 81-33A for Americans traveling to Pakistan in 1981.
Before traveling to Pakistan, American Citizens should be aware of the following updated visa requirements: 30 day visas are available at Pakistani airports for tourists only. As these visas are rarely extended beyond the 30 day time per visa. Tourists planning to stay longer should secure visas before coming to Pakistan. Any traveler coming into Pakistan overland from India must, repeat must, have a valid visa, as 30 day visas are not, repeat not, issued at the overland border crossing point at Wagha.
The "don't travel" list is published by the State Department as a precaution for U.S. citizens traveling to specified countries. It is not a prohibition against traveling to those countries. The traveler assumes his/her own risk if he/she travels there after being warned not to. The U.S. does not have agents at the Pakistani border confiscating passports of U.S. citizens trying to enter that country. That would be absurd.
The U.S. government cannot tell you where you can and cannot go on its passport. It is up to the countries you are visiting to give permission, issue visas, define terms of stay, or deny entry. If Pakistan says you can't enter on a U.S. passport, that is up to them.
As I understand it, the U.S. cannot prevent people from traveling to other countries using its passport. Indeed, the U.S. passport is a request by the U.S. State Department to allow passage to the bearer of the passport.
The country you are traveling to, in this case, Pakistan, is the one that allows or denies entry.
If someone attempted to enter Pakistan (even at that time) with a U.S. passport, the U.S. State Department could do nothing, other than say, "we warned you not to go there." There is nothing on the passport that says "this passport is invalid if one attempts to enter the following countries..."
Could Barack Obama have traveled to Pakistan on a U.S. passport? Yes, but it would have been unwise. It would not have been impossible.
Perhaps it would have been easier for him to use a passport from a Muslim country such as Indonesia, and considering his propensity for laziness, cutting corners, expediency, and deceptiveness, I wouldn't be surprised if that is what he did.
