Gaddafi army 'not at breaking point'
BBC News ^ | 31 March 2011

Libya leader Muammar Gaddafi's armed forces are not close to breaking point despite hundreds of allied air strikes, American military chiefs have said.

Adm Mike Mullen told a US Congress committee Col Gaddafi's troops still had 10 times the rebels' firepower.

At the same hearing, Defence Secretary Robert Gates reiterated the US would put no "boots on the ground" in Libya.

Rebels and pro-Gaddafi forces appear to have reached a stalemate in their fight for control of the country.

In recent days, rebels have been urging international forces to conduct more air strikes.

Adm Mullen told the House of Representatives armed forces committee that bad weather had stopped them from identifying targets over the past three or four days.

"[The weather] has more than anything else reduced the impact... reduced the effectiveness, and has allowed the regime forces to move back to the east," the AFP news agency quoted him as saying.

Despite the weather, he said the air strikes since the beginning of the operation had wiped out between 20% and 25% of Col Gaddafi's forces.

"We have actually fairly seriously degraded his military capabilities. That does not mean he's about to break, from a military standpoint, because that's not the case," he said.

should not be there, should not have done the bombing, the media has covered up the whole affair, Obama goes on vacation and then wages war , NATO has no legal right to be there and this has been a Mickey Mouse show.

Now the media will again cover for their messiah while the masses talk about factor X , who will win and then hear the talking bumper sticker points from the left and then repeat them

This is what we get when we get a man voted in fairly or unfairly who had no experience, voted in due to his color, slogans like yes we can and hope and change.

If any left wing trolls are reading this then well done on being the dumbest voters in our history, yes we can ARF, idiots

except there is boots on the ground, they’re called forward observation officers and looking at the air strikes, directing etc.

This war is not right, we should not be there and neither does NATO.

Yet again the left wages a war without congressional approval, stay silent and wages a war on a country which has no direct immediate security threats on us

who are the dim wits not understand?
Because we do have boots on the ground and he is lying plus anyone who has served knows how this all works so again these dim wits are the ones who actually understand we do have boots on the ground and the dimwits are the ones who have no clue and think we do not

That's how it started in Vietnam, we sent in advisors, then advisors started getting killed, so we had to send in troops to protect the advisors, and then it just snowballed from there.

this is why it is important to elect someone who knows about the world and more importantly our military.

This has been Mickey mouse from the get go and that is on top of we should not be there anyway nor should NATO

correct but the problem with the left and this muppet in power is that they do not understand history.

What a shambles this all is and yet as long as the journalists see their 401k’s go up on the market then they will keep covering for the left .

I'll bet my life and sacred honor that Obomination and his Defense Secret-ary Gates are playing "good cop", "bad cop" in this little lying, pseudo-dramatic game of "boots on the ground".

Trying to make us believe they are issuing contrary policy statements these two must really think we're imbeciles.....kinda on a par with the administration's brilliant Mr. Peepers press secretary.

I don't trust either one of them as far as I can throw them.

How a principled Republican cabinet member could flip and work for Obama is beyond me....and how he has stuck with him like glue for all this time is telling....Gates is an opportunistic little weasel without a moral compass just like his boss.....which is bad news for our troops in the leadership picture.

I have a feeling Gates will soon crack from pressure emanating from his own internal moral dilemnas....he looks like hell already in his close-ups.

I can’t wait for the center-fuel tank explosions and other random, non-state-sponsored acts of terrorism to come. It’s going to be fantastic. I really missed the 90’s too.

No kidding. The evil of this administration makes the evil of the Klinton administration look like pikers.

CIA operatives, and possibly Special Ops forces, wearing sandals do not count
as “boots on the ground”.

Thanks MinorityRepublican.

Let's see -- before Zero and his co-idiots jumped into this manure pile, the lawless jihadists were getting their asses handed to them, and were steadily crying out for air strikes and assassination. Sounds like they're right at the end of their rope again.

And that will not be the last time they're at the end of a rope.

Unless Gaddafy just has them all shot instead.
