“...It’s like something in the United States.”

***Right... it’s not like Brazil’s hell hole slums have a murder epidemic known the world over or anything.***

When you live all your life in a sewer you don’t notice the smell.

Gee, looks like heavy gun restrictions have worked again.

From Wikipedia:

Because of gun politics in Brazil, all firearms are required to be registered with the state; the minimum age for ownership is 25[1] and although it is legal to carry a gun outside a residence, extremely severe restrictions were made by the federal government since 2002 making it virtually impossible to obtain a carry permit.[2] To legally own a gun, the owner must pay a tax every three years to register the gun, currently at R$ 60,[3] and registration can be done via the Internet or in person with the Federal Police.[4]

--SNIP--

Although Brazil has 110 million fewer citizens than the United States, and more restrictive gun laws, there are 50% more gun deaths;[6] other sources indicate that homicide rates due to guns are approximately four times higher than the rate in the United States.

I’ve been living in Brazil for 28 years now. I’ve never seen or heard about a school shooting here. On the other hand, I remember reading about school shootings in the US, twice, three times, four times a year. So... yes... that man is correct. It IS like something in the United States. I don’t understand why are you both so mad about that. Accept reality. Otherwise it’s simply ironic you people talking about “not noticing the smell of the sewer”. I’m smelling something, pal.

*** I’m smelling something, pal.***

I had a friend who told us how wonderful it was to live in a certain state in the US. He bragged about it, spoke of its greatness, and how he would move back in an instant.

After a couple of years in OUR area he returned for a visit, and when he came back he said he did not realize how different two areas of the US could be. There IS a difference in people! He never returned to his “great” state to live.

He lived in a sewer, got out and didn’t realize how bad the smell was till he was away from it.

Maybe not all of Brazil isbad but there are certainly sewers there that people live in just like there are probably nice places in Haiti.

Just like every other place with gun control, there is no gun violence.

/Industrial grade sarcasm.

At that rate, you must be reading about the same shootings or old shootings multiple times. It does seem that such occurrences are more frequent when we have a democrat in the White House for some reason.

The reason the statement is so offensive is that it was a gratuitous political cheap shot at someone else while dealing with one's own travesty. As another poster already provided statistical analysis, irrespective of relative school-shooting frequency, Brazil has 50% higher rate of gun violence despite having a population of 110 million fewer people and much more restrictive gun control laws compared to the United States. Be careful there in Brazil; it sounds like you are in much greater peril of facing gun violence than we are here in the US.

Al Qaeda in Brazil.

From Pam Geller’s site:

I think it’s important to note that all of the headlines in the news reports in Portuguese call the murderer an Islamic suicide bomber and report that his letter refers to Islam, while none of the English outlets are reporting this critical clue.

“In recent months, she said, he appeared to have got closer to Islam.”

At least 11 people, mostly children, died Thursday and more that 15 were wounded when an armed man attacked a school in Realengo in the poor suburbs of Rio de Janeiro.

According to a preliminary police report, the attacker - a 24- year-old former student at the school - was among the dead after shooting himself in the head. He attacked Tasso da Silveira school, where some 400 students ages 9-14 were in classes. [...]

Beltrami described the letter as ‘the words of a person who no longer believes in anything, full of sentences that made no sense and references to Islamic fundamentalism.’

So go fly a kite preferably in your peaceful Brazil.
