Chicago school bans some lunches brought from home
Chicago Tribune ^ | April 11, 2011 | Monica Eng and Joel Hood

To encourage healthful eating, Chicago school doesn't allow kids to bring lunches or certain snacks from home — and some parents, and many students, aren't fans of the policy

A Little Village Academy student cringes at an enchilada dish served at his school. Many students throw away their entrees uneaten and say they would rather bring food from home. The school, though, does not allow students to bring in their own lunches, unless they have a medical condition or a food allergy.

So if you are Catholic and they don’t serve fish on Fridays during lent sue on a 1st Amendment religious free exercise grounds. If you are a non-Lent observer and they only serve fish on Fridays during lent, sue on 1st Amendment religious establishment grounds.

The MONEY quote is that the school makes money by kickbacks to the meal provider and all the transport, supply and delivery of the meals. That’s how they justify raising taxes. The POOR children can’t “afford” breakfast, lunch and in some cases dinner provided by the government for the little future parasites to look to momma government from cradle to grave care.

Pathetic

Public schools are not welfare, we pay for them whether our children use them or not.

That's why it's welfare.

But since there's no means testing, what the heck. Use it. Quality govt education and babysitting, what could be wrong with that.

How are you going to enforce communist dictatorship if you let the little people take care of themselves. First, you have to ensure their 100% dependency.

Nope. Kids need to brazenly take their lunches to the lunch room and eat. There is no way this school rule could win in court and it definitely needs to be challenged. —eat in the bathroom? ewwww.... We want to raise warriors not wimps.

First, it is the parents job to pack a healthy lunch. If the parents give them chips and a soda, then the parents give them chips and a soda. THEIR CHOICE. What has happened to personal responsibility?

When I was growing up, food was actually made at the schools, and they were quite tasty. It wasn't these heat and serve deals they have now. It is horrible, and all about the money.

Well roughly 20% of us don’t deserve it.

This is too much. Where’s the ACLU?

Stupid (bleep) Principal. The kids aren’t gonna eat eat your subsidized crap food, then they’ll go and gorge themselves on all that “bad” stuff you don’t like cause they’re (bleep) starving when you finally let them leave.

You want them to lose weight? Let them play outside for an hour or 2 a day instead of keeping them in class to be brainwashed and given busy work you stupid twit.

RE :”This is too much. Where’s the ACLU?

Did you see this in the article?

Any school that bans homemade lunches also puts more money in the pockets of the district's food provider, Chartwells-Thompson. The federal government pays the district for each free or reduced-price lunch taken, and the caterer receives a set fee from the district per lunch.

Remember spring 1995 the Democrats held "Don't starve school children" rallies on the capital steps to protest budget cuts in federal school lunch program? I actually drove down (about 25 minutes) to see that one, Jesse Jackson and the BCC live.

The ACLU was too busy burning Bibles, aborting babies, pushing for “reparations”, and making sure parents who force their kids to pretend disabilities in order to live their lives on the dole are protected from prosecution.
