More than 200 teachers overfilled the Kansas City school board auditorium tonight, standing against the district’s plan to end 87 teacher contracts while bringing in 150 recruits from Teach for America.

“I wanted you to see the faces of people on that list (of non-renewed teachers),” teachers’ union president Andrea Flinders told the board.

Many of the teachers wore symbolic “pink slips” pinned to their blue union T-shirts.

Looks like even in a union town like KC, the teachers are getting punked...it’s a beautiful thing to see.

HAHAHAHA!

These union idiots didn’t even know that they would be supporting a program that would replace them.

Cleveland laid off hundreds of teachers this year, and many many in the administration. The only way to save state sponsored education is to privatize it through the use of vouchers. It would create competition and better results for more children.

Our school district is cutting 30 positions, administrators, unnecessary teaching positions. I’ve scanned the budget — we lose nothing. How again are these types of positions necessary in the first place?

We’ve gotten to the point in NJ where if our school budget passes, we’lll lose 3 teachers; if it fails, we lose 8. The days of being sucked dry by the public school teachers’ unions are coming to an end in NJ; there is simply nothing left to squeeze from people...

Where are all these people that didn’t do well in college going to get jobs? Shouldn’t we sacrifice our whole society to keep them employed?

Gee Andrea, I thought you LIKED contracts?
Huh? Oh.. only when your members are involved. I see now....

Mzzzz Flinders is ignoring the fact that the KC School District HAS TO bring in the 150 Teachers Aides (TA's) from Teach for America, they have a binding contract.

And the 87 that will be 'let go' is more than likely due to LOWER ENROLLMENT NUMBERS for next year (a national trend in 'urban areas'). And attrition through retirement alone isn't enough to make up for less kids in school, meaning less classroom teachers needed (Duh!).

Fire the teacher’s union then manage the teachers.

Re: “FIre the teacher’s unions”
Myself, I think that the NEA should be prosecuted in a class-action lawsuit for failure to educate.
If we could get enough states to sign on we might be able to sue them out of existence.

I like... Is it possible that some upwardly moving and ambitious DA somewhere might be willing to bring RICO charges against the unions for the harm they have caused our children? You know...since it is always “because of the children”...
