RICHMOND, Va. Gov. Bob McDonnell has vetoed the legislative redistricting plan passed by the Virginia General Assembly.
The bill outlines new district boundaries for both the Senate and the House of Delegates. The Republican governor said Friday he has concerns about the Senate plan, which he said failed to receive bipartisan support. The Democrat-controlled Senate passed the measure on a party-line vote.
The governor also said the proposed Senate districts are not compact as required by law, and that they do not properly preserve locality boundaries and communities of interest. He said he's concerned the Senate plan may also violate the one person-one vote principle of the state and U.S. constitutions.
Does the countable chain condition imply that a space is compact?
DITTO!
Democrat gerrymandering at its best. They’re trying everything they can to hold on to all the power they can. Trouble is, the Courts will force the Republicans to give into them — and eventually, the Republicans will — because they’re Republicans.
Mamie Locke and Hampton University president William Harvey have been scheming for years to jam “color only” candidates down our collective throats in this area.
Good for McDonnell.
“Nonpartisan” means...well,that is to say...if one strictly defines...yet one one must take into account reality...so it stands to reason...aw hell,it means the same damn thing!
The Tea Party just HAS to stop Inside The Beltway business as usual before the language is as corrupted as the government.
Yep, they sure have!!
Remap season is getting into gear.

More profound than many realize.
Even among (chronological) adults, many people accept verbal acrobatics, (what is Libya called "kinetic interdiction" or some such?) as legitimate thinking. Noam Chomsky (linguist) is the biggest buffoon in this regard. And of course Barack Obama is the paragon.
Verbalism is simply empty symbolism, kind of like showing the flag while running in the opposite direction.
And so many are clueless.
I agree with you. Which means we need to get clear meanings of words and keep the feet of those who are in Washington in the fire so they can’t get away with their shenanigans.
Good for him.
McDonnell continues to impress as a role model for executive leadership.
I hope they do some work on CD9 to keep Boucher from getting his old seat back. I have a feeling we haven’t seen the last of him. I believe he’ll come back next year when there’s a presidential election, and many of the idiots will believe he’s still the incumbent, being unaware that he was voted out last year. (people habitually voted him into the Congress for decades)
But then a tapeworm is a parasite, just like HOLDER's people!! :)
Cigar Da\/e calls Kathy Castor 'Kathy CASTRO!!'. That district is strange. Of course, my state rep in FL lies 2 counties away from me in Sarasota (and I'm in south Hillsborough)
Kastoro is my rep in S.Tampa. I hope we get redistricted.

While all of theses other concerns are valid, the whole point of the Senate was regional representation NOT 1 person 1 vote.
One person one vote is for house representation, and actual voting Not districting!
Furthermore one person one vote is NOT in the United States Federal Constitution.
