Hey, if it wasn't for the cotton gin, JJJr and his peeps would be claiming how bad things are in their home country on the continent of Africa.

FWIW, invention of the cotton gin actually increased demand for labor, because hand carding (separation of cotton lint from seed and other foreign material) was a major bottleneck in increasing cotton consumption.

The cotton gin eliminated this bottleneck and cotton production soared and, with it, the demand for slave labor-- exactly the opposite intention of Eli Whitney in introducing the new invention.

Of course, it did cut down on the labour requirements for cotton carding.

“What becomes of publishing companies and publishing company jobs? What becomes of bookstores and libraries, and all of the jobs associated with paper? Well, in the not-too-distant future, such jobs simply won’t exist,” he said.

Publishing companies, bookstores, libraries...by necessity have limited catalogs/stock. And that limited output/stock is often controlled by liberals. What Jesse Jr. is really lamenting here is the true freedom of information afforded by the internet. His poppa must regale him with stories about how things were in the pre-internet days when the lies of the left were buffed and polished by the old media and few means of successfully countering them.

the stupid apple (pun intended) didn’t fall far from the idiotic tree, did it?

You're right. He is more about running off at the mouth than actual studied thought. Just like dear ol dad. Notice that the MSM isn't talking about how just last month this dimwit stood on the House floor and said we should change the Constitution to PROVIDE an ipad, kindle, or laptop to ALL school kids. Talking out of both sides of his mouth just like daddy. Throwing stuff against the wall to see who'll send a check.

With our current administration wishing for the kind of control over our internet access the Chinese have over thier citizens it could come a day when the days of "freedom of information" were when books were printed, and the government couldn't monitor which ones you own, have read, and whether you gave or loaned them to someone else.

All the more reason for Obama not to have a second term, because that is when he will do it. Right now it is just a “plan” they are throwing out there, but come January 2013 if he is still occupying the White House he will implement it.

Still mad about the cotton gin putting hard working slaves out of work, I guess.

Reminds me of an old black and white movie - cant recall who or title - but this guy invented a fabric that never wore out and repelled dirt/stains. At first everyone cheered the great invention - then they realized that eventually the textile mills and wash shops would all be closed for lack of demand. They were were chasing him in a mob when the chemical composition came apart - seems there was a time limit. Show ended with him walking into the sunset looking for another lab to work at....great movie.

RE :”Jesse Jackson, Jr. blames the iPad for ‘eliminating thousands of American jobs’ Daniel Keylin - The Daily Caller 41 mins ago . On Friday, Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. (D-Ill.) took the House floor and lambasted Apple’s iPad, saying the tablet was “probably responsible for eliminating thousands of American jobs.” Jackson expressed general outrage over the potential of a paperless society that the iPad threatens to create. “What becomes of publishing companies and publishing company jobs? What becomes of bookstores and libraries, and all of the jobs associated with paper? Well, in the not-too-distant future, such jobs simply won’t exist,” he said.

Jesse has a point and misses it too. Yes, time advancing with an endless replacement of low skilled labor presents a problem, but trying to force a stand-still wont work either. I thought he was a 'progressive' anyway.

I used a similar example of automated checkers in many stores in union Maryland as an example of how Trump is playing his audience for suckers complaining about telephone (service/technical)operators in India stealing our high paying jobs. Many US companies replaced human operators with those terrible automated voice pattern recognition software programs that give you 100 options, none of which you need. But Trump works up his chumps in anger over Indians getting these jobs instead of machines.

I will give Jesse some credit I wont give Trump. Jesse at least doesn't hide that he is a socialist.

I still remember Micheal Savage saying that the US government letting us buy Japanese cars was a US National Security vunerability, that is when I tuned him out.

Automation has replaced (or displaced) FAR MORE American workers than foreign labor ever will. That’s just the reality of technology.
