Obama 'disrespected' Israel, threw it 'under the bus,' says Romney By Michael O'Brien - 05/19/11 03:29 PM ET

President Obama "disrespected" Israel and threw it "under the bus" in a wide-ranging speech on the Middle East on Thursday, GOP presidential contender Mitt Romney charged.

Romney strongly criticized Obama, who, in a speech at the State Department, called for Israel to return to its border lines as drawn before the 1967 Arab-Israeli war.

"President Obama has thrown Israel under the bus. He has disrespected Israel and undermined its ability to negotiate peace," Romney said in a statement.

"He has also violated a first principle of American foreign policy, which is to stand firm by our friends," added the former Massachusetts governor.

Romney led Republicans in criticizing the Obama speech, which touched on broader themes throughout the Middle East, including the popular movements for democratization, from Egypt to Yemen, during the first half of the year.

"President Obama has betrayed Israel and made a grievous mistake by suggesting borders of Israel go back to pre-1967 borders. This is an outrage to peace, sovereignty of Israel, and a stable Middle East," former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R), a 2008 Republican presidential candidate who's been a staunch supporter of Israel, said in a statement.

Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.), meanwhile, suggested Obama's stance could represent "the beginning of the end as we know it for the Jewish state."

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, another Republican presidential candidate, declined to comment on the Obama speech during an appearance on the Rush Limbaugh radio show this afternoon, explaining that he hadn't yet been able to listen to the speech or digest its contents.

The political battle lines emerged quickly on Thursday afternoon after Obama's speech, especially after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the president's call for a return to 1967 borders.

Netanyahu will meet with Obama on Friday at the White House, and he'll stay in Washington over the weekend before addressing the AIPAC conference Monday and a joint meeting of Congress on Tuesday.

“I can only hope and pray BIBI will stand against all that he now faces and knows that the American people do not oppose him nor Israel.”

He probably does. He’s a brave lion, a faithful leader and was Israel’s youngest prime minister ever his first time around.

I know we’re not Huckabee fans here, but remember when he and Jon Voigt went to Israel not that long ago? They met privately with Bibi and I’m sure they gave him an earful of what we Americans REALLY think of BHO. Then the Palins went, Glenn Beck just got back from there and will hold a Courage rally there this summer. So Bibi knows we have some public voices opposing BHO and speaking for Israel - for all the good it does, but at least it’s public and it’s moral support.

I tell you, neither Israel nor we can survive a second term of this evil pretender. We simply MUST defeat him, and it will require us to be united, when the time comes, behind whomever we run against him in the general. Then, all bets are off and this time we won’t have the luxury of dividing, whining and pouting come November ‘12. During the primary, fine - let’s go at it. But afterward, it’d better be “eye on the prize” (which in this case is saving our Republic from a Constitutionally ineligible, foreign, marxist, America-hating, Israel-hating Muslim). Even the worst we have to offer is infinitely better than B. Hussein Obama (and Moochelle).

The truth hurts.

“Why wouldn’t he be elected? I say he cuts Obama’s black support by 1/3rd. He’ll take well over half of the independants and 60 + percent of male voters. IMHO (I could be wrong) he will beat Obama 54/45 with one percent divided amongst the various and insignificant minor parties.”

You know, I think you’re right and most people just haven’t looked at it that way yet. It would totally flummox the LSM and the Left to have a (truly) black candidate running against BHO, especially one so admirable and articulate who can clean his clock in debate (and every other way). They’ve got what’s predicted to be the most vicious campaign planned (in our lifetime) and Herman Cain would completely derail it.

IMHO

“but Obama has alot less currency with the rest of the world than any previous president, I seriously doubt he has any pull in Israel.”

That’s a fact! Bibi said somewhere in ‘08 that he feared BHO would win the election - he knew what would come if that happened. And yes, virtually no one, friend or foe, respects Obama. Our enemies only understand might and forcefulness - most of them actually feared GW. This current scoundrel? They just laugh.

Before BHO took office, he said he would “restore America’s place in the world”, reclaim respect for us, yada yada yada. (Stupid sheeple believed him.) He knew damned good and well that he intended to take us down on the world stage and he’s doing a pretty good job of it so far.

“So Barry or Willie...same same...”

BHO is NOT “same same” as anyone we could possibly come up with. He’s on a purposeful mission to destroy this country and its people. I don’t think that about Romney or anyone else on the radar currently. Therefore, Mitt could be pretty pliable to a Republican (hopefully conservative) House and Senate. Congress will be key no matter who becomes POTUS anyway. MR’s not as bold as BHO - but I think that’s also why he’d be too wimpy to beat him.

We’re gonna have to have an alpha male (and a quick-thinking, forceful orator/debater) to kick BHO out of our White House, IMO.

“This sort of “christian” is the obverse side of the “christian identity” coin. Not a recognizable Christian, but at the same time, not a muslim”

Wright was previously a Muslim, and many “ex” Muslims attend his church. Wright’s best buddies with Louis Farrakhan, and they both went to Tripoli some years ago to see their other BFF. Gaddafi. That church BHO (and his wife) attended for 20 years is in no way Christian. Wright preaches hatred for America and Jews and sympathy for Muslim terrorists. And BHO called him his “mentor” and spiritual advisor?

I don’t think that about Romney
___________________________________________

Then you should

intentional or not Romney could destroy America through ignorance and carelessness

His arrogance, timidity and lack of moral discipline, experience and knowledge would do America in just as easily as Barry could...

Romney is not good for America and his cowardly passin g the buck and lack of manhood and leadership would have us bowing down to our enemies rather than fight them off

He may not have been on the golf course but that would be Romney at the back of the room in the corner where Barry sat..because someone else had to make the decision..

In a 2008 debate Romney was asked what he would do if we had a 9/11 or other crisis on his watch

he said he woul;d have to check with his lawyers..

Thats not leadership, thats not taking responsibility

In 1968 when he was drafted, rather than man up and defend his country, Romney ran to France and dodged the draft, TWICE

His lack of personal and national responsibilty would get people killed...

He would endanger people and is not fit to be POTUS

We dont need another liberal community organizer..

Romney would be a constant loggerheads to a conservative GOP House and Senate

He would take credit for the good stuff someone else thought of

(like Duncan hunters fence)

and blame someone else for his own stupid expensive mistakes...

(Like the wasted millions for the 2002 Olympics)

With the mormon bosses from SLC hanging out in the White House not much would get done anyway...

It would be just like the situation in Utah now

Every bill would have to be OKed by Temple Square first...

Before the Bishop-in-Chief could sign it...

Why give him any credit whatsoever? The guy will always say what he’s told to say and that can change on LESS than a dime. He’s a huge appeaser and good for nothing butt wiper...

I am always concerned for the election when people support a known politician who flip flops like a fish out of water. It is one thing to change ones opinion, and give the reasons, and solid ones why that is...than to just go with whatever wind that blows so you can still sail....Romney wants to sail and he doesn’t care which way the wind blows as long as he’s in it!

Concerning Romney...”we are not going to get excited about every little positive campaign utterance that he makes.”

Thank you ansell2....Already the media is trying to push him as the “favored” republican candidate and they will push harder as the election draws closer. I’ve been keeping a careful eye on the creep...I soooooooooo will not vote for him, even if BO retains the Pres. seat.

If Romney wins he’ll be pulling back into office all the frigg’en Rinos we just eliminated! Not to mention his appetite for “Mr. Popularity” with the democrates...who can mold him however they want.

So far, Romney is one of a small handful of political figures who have come out and hit Obama on this.

Yeah days after everyone else as usual

after hes tested the waters to see what direction would be politically beneficial to him

We needn’t fight. OK?

quite something to say this after calling me a bigit...however Few there are who I "fight" but when it comes to Romney I will stand against even an inch he tries to fake-out people with. The creep knows to stand for Israel is what the people want to here, and those majority in Congress as well...He's playing to the crowd. Ok then...I've had my say...and agree...I do not want to fight with you.

Funny that Romney said BO undermined BiBi’s ability to negotiate peace...who does he think he is amking that call! Ha! BiBi isn’t about ready to be intimidated by anyone in another country. He’s all for Israel and certainly knows how to negotiate with or without BO....in fact he’s been doing it anyway, and that without him. Just like every other leader on hte world stage. BO has zip-zero impact. He’s a fly on the wall and they all simply tolerate him.

Make no mistake - the last thing I want to see is Romney as our candidate. The GOP sure seems to be pushing for him, and it’s alarming that he raised over $10 million just the other day. I think he’s terribly weak, and the same for Daniels. He doesn’t even have the physical persona to be taken seriously by the general public in the numbers necessary to win, so the LSM seems to be drooling to see him as our candidate.
