I still think if you put in a restriction that won’t allow posting articles until you’ve made 100 replies most of the troll, pimp and noob vanity problems will go away all by themselves. Heck, even 20 would fix half of them.

We’ve had that. We’ve also had pimpers post sockpuppet accounts to respond to their own posts praising themselves. And for one site, create dozens upon dozens of new accounts day after day and when one gets zotted, pull up another and start pimping again.

Most pimps who have been zotted were either because it was obvious they were spammers, posting dozens to hundreds of articles with no replies. I've actually had posts deleted when I pointed out that a certain blog pimp, specifically pacothecat makes post after post that is nothing but a link to a blog, yet never, ever comments on posts or replies to these postings.
I copied him with this post, yet I'm quite confident that he/she will never see or notice it.

Perhaps a probation period would be in order.
It floors me that people will join up and post articles without hanging around and posting comments for a while.
Then again, I have maybe 2 threads posted and nearly 100k comments.
