In Iowa, Cain says he sees a redeemable America in crisis
Colorado Independent ^ | 05.22.11 | Lynda Waddington

CEDAR RAPIDS — America is facing some massive problems, said Herman Cain, and it’s time for politicians and elected officials to be honest about the magnitude of what is before the nation.

Cain highlighted seven separate areas that need to be addressed — a moral crisis, an economic crisis, an energy crisis, an entitlement spending crisis, an immigration crisis, a national security crisis and a deficiency of leadership crisis in Washington, D.C.

“Now, we have other problems, but those are our seven crises — and I stopped at seven because it has sort of a Biblical significance. I like Biblical significance,” he said.

“Those are the seven biggest crises that we face. But here’s the good news: We can face them, and they aren’t going to face themselves.”

While most presidential candidates attend Iowa events with a box of swag comprised of bumper stickers, pamphlets and sign-up sheets for supporters, Cain came to Cedar Rapids with two items — a small tri-fold brochure with a detachable and mailable card for those wanting to donate to his Presidential Exploratory Committee and a 20-page, full-color brochure that lists that contains mini white papers on each of the crisis areas he’s identified. Pages three through 17 of the document, which measures roughly 3 inches wide by six inches long, contains only one photograph amid page after page of text.

Many of the problems before America, he notes, have plenty of “low-hanging fruit” ideas that could begin a move in the correct direction.

“If you think about it, there are a lot of simple and good ideas that come to Washington, D.C. and die because of liberal ideology,” he said.

If elected president, Cain said one of his first self-imposed jobs would be to jump-start the economy — “the biggest thing that we have got to turn around.” Toward that end, he would lower the nation’s highest level of corporate taxes from 35 to 25 percent.

“We are the only country in the world that has not lowered its top corporate tax rate in 15 years,” he said. “How dumb is that?! … And we wonder why jobs are leaving this country. It is all about the tax structure, that’s why jobs are leaving this country.”

Tax rates for America’s highest individual earners, he said, should also be reduced, the Capital Gains tax rate should be taken to zero, and taxes on employers and employees should be taken to zero for a year.

“I know that the liberals are going to say, ‘All you want to do is give tax breaks to the rich.’ That’s their usual class-warfare rhetoric,” he said. “But, you know, when Herman Cain becomes President, I’m going to make a breaking news announcement to all of America: It’s OK to succeed in America.”

And, when the tone has change, Cain says he plans “to put a bow around it” by making his new lowered tax structure permanent.

“We have to get this uncertainty off of this economy,” he said. “I plan to get Congress to do this in the first 90 days of my administration.”

I like Bachman....and she does have some expereince in Washington dynamics. But not so sure she can be tough enough where toughness will matter.

We’ve got The S. American Issue with Venzuela...and the hightened events in the ME in constant motion...the “Universalism” push driving events as well...and the deep propblems in our own country. It’s going to take an in your face Pres. to stand against what’s coming...who at the same time can be diplomaticc when called for.

You are right. It’s going to take someone with an open line to God Himself to turn our country around. It will take a mono mental amount of correct moves to turn our ship of state which is headed for complete destruction. Just saying the things the people want to hear will not do it. Never before have we needed to examine each candidate minutely before making a decision. And with the government owned media that examination will be sorely challenged.

It sounds like under the fair tax we would be paying exponentially more than we do now. Tax deductions are necessary for things like mortgage interest payments, charities, business expenses, and losses. Paying 23% tax on food, home purchases, and utilities would be a real killer for most people. Many states have sales tax, and many have income tax so it only makes sense that an all inclusive Federal sales tax would cause a mass emigration OUT of the country.

Of all the candidates, I think Bahman has the stuff needed to stand up to those problems, although why would she want to if not for the love of her country? Possible candidates are dropping like flies in the face of those problems, either for the love of money, or the lack of self reliance and dedication. There is no tiger like an angry woman. Believe me.

Watched Cain on Chris Wallace's show this am, and I think Cain was walked into a misstatement by Wallace. He was being asked about the debt ceiling and his plan. Wallace said even Boehner is saying they need to make a deal and how could Cain's plan work. Cain's plan was pay the debt, pay for military, pay SS and medicare. Then start cutting from there. But Wallace got Cain to say his own plan would not work because they waited to long. He should have said something along the lines of they waited so long, that there are few options left and my plan is one of them.

Money line from the show was when Wallace asked what Cain would offer the Palestinians to accelerate peace talks. Cain: "NUTHIN!"

“NUTHIN” was sure a great answer. Maybe the Cain Plan wouldn't work by the time he could get into the White House but I think he above all other candidates or potential candidates including Romney (barf) could figure it out when he has all knowledge of whats going on

Many questions? Like is he stil a member of the KKK, get real Sarah Palin has nothing but good things to say about this man.

He is going to make a really dull primary into something we can watch. Daniels is out, Newt is in self destruct mode, T Paw is exciting as watching paint dry. I said a couple weeks ago the next Republican President has not entered the race, whether or not it is Palin and I could be wrong about The Herminator.

Cain morphed into McCain right before our eyes, endorsing the palestinian right of return.

Fork, pig, done.

That's exactly why I am thinking both parties are determining who's going to take the fall more than who is going to turn this boat around.

I'm not so sure either. that whoever sits in that position of power will have the clout to move any direction of their choosing....hard to steer anything when there is no money....let alone plug the holes. Whoever it is they will not be popular and will look bad most of the time, that is short of God having mercy on our country. It doesn't look to me like He is going to do that...although He certainly is still holding it together somewhat at this point. I think He's going slow to give the American people every inch of time to consider and or re-consider to turn or not.

Haven’t stayed with Cain on this...are you saying Caine is supporting the Palestinians right of return?.... Because if so then he has NO understanding of the Israel/Palestinian issue at all.

Cain just keeps saying things that make sense.

Talk is cheap...anyone can play that role and come out smelling like a rose. What's his background in what he stated before his run......that determines much more than what one says now they are in the race and saying whatever itchy ears want to hear.

I found it...and yes he does support the right of return...but I do question if he really knows what that is about...

Wallace: Where do you stand on the right of return?

Cain: The right of return? The right of return?

Wallace: The Palestinian right of return

Cain: That should be negotiated.

Wallace: You think the Palistinian refugees kicked out in 1948 should have any right to return to Israeli land?

Cain: Yes, they should have the right to come back if that is a decision that Israel wants to make.

Cain might have to wait until he’s elected to know what the experts think about Afghanistan but all he had to to was read yesterday’s newspapers to know what Israel thinks about the right of return. No way.

Netanyahu underscored just how difficult that last issue is alone, declaring that Palestinians will not be allowed to settle in Israel as part of any peace plan.

“It’s not going to happen. Everybody knows it’s not going to happen”, he said. “And I think it’s time to tell the Palestinians forthrightly it’s not going to happen.”

Wallace:...” You think the Palestinian refugees kicked out in 1948 should have any right to return to Israeli land?”

Too bad Wallace didn't mention that it was the Muzzies who told the Palestinians to get out of Israel...so they could push Israel into the sea. Then they kicked them out of Jordon because nobody could control their dreadful and sicko ways...caused everybody problems...just as they do today..and that is not going to change. That's why the Arabs won't help them or any other ME country....they're bad news....further they are not about to give up their incubator site for suicide killers....they keep those camps hungry for a reason....

You give the Palestinians a state and you will find death and destruction for all their neighbors.

Your points are very well taken and thank you for the information. There is a difference between the two camps mentioned, National Socialism vs Communism that you may be unaware.

Rather then post it here, I will post the lnk to Von Mises and the paper on National Socialism.

http://mises.org/daily/47

And my point about Cain is if he said “it is a good thing to the government to banks so the government can use the profits to help get us out of this mess.”

So, if this is truly his position then he is in fact a socilist in the communist model. You see A is A and cannot be non A, read my tagline.

I watched it and he did not endorse Palestinians Right of Return. He said it was a decision for Israel to make during any negotiations.

Correct... and that is what is concerning for me with the candidates who run...do they understand the Islamic threat against this nation, or are they going to play the appeasement role in how they respond.

Cain appears not to understand the M.E. dynamics or he would not have answered as he did. If he did understand his response would have been more centered and defined, as he does with other statements. This one is critical to our national security but he surely seemed to question even what the “right of return is” just by his hesitation etc.

Unfortunately I do think Barry would gladly go head to head with Cain....and not see him as a threat to his Pres. at all. We can't forget the media is going to give time to “their” favored “republican candidate”....anyone who is NOT a threat to BO...and they will trash everyone who is a threat when they do give them time.

I for one will not vote for the candidate they put forward, and I think we'll be able to tell exactly who that will be.

Cain:...." Yes, they should have the right to come back....... if that is a decision that Israel wants to make."

Those are his exact words....

do I see a "Yes,...I believe yes is not no or maybe..... they have a right to come back"...????... Of course I do.

Tacking on the rear of that comment..."IF" that is a decision Israel wants to make"...is very telling.... Israel has made that "Decision" already and crystal clear for decades,.... and BiBi just said in his comments to BO..."That is not going to happen, EVERYBODY knows that is not going to happen"..end quote.

It appears everybody knows but Cain...sorry but he does not understand the Israel/Palestinaian situation or he could not have stated it as he did...further coming off BiBi's speech which was also crystal clear..."No return"...zip nada.

You can try and frame that or claim that his comments ment something else but those words clearly revealed he does not know what he is talking about. "Nobody would say yes they have a right to return...except someone who supported the Palestinaians...or...was ignorant of the conflict. Both of which are not favorable for Cain.

National Security matters...Cain failed on this and any candidate better have a strong understanding of that conflict. The nuclear button and who has it matters.

I have questions about his stand on trade agreements, how fair his fair tax is, his Masonic affiliations, and his thoughts on the monetary system. It is far too early to know if this man who popped up from nowhere is the man for the job. Let us not take an unknown at his word until we get a few answers, and then we can decide if he is, indeed, the best person the country. That is getting real.
