Itd be hard for him to say no. Romney, Pawlenty, and Huntsman will split the centrist vote, so theres an opportunity on the right for a prominent conservative to swoop in and consolidate the base. Thats what Palins going to try to do, leveraging her higher name recognition to swamp Bachmann and Cain in Iowa, but Perry would be a major challenge for her. In fact, given his record on jobs, he may even pull some votes from the centrists.
Coming soon to a debate near you?
With conservatives aching for more choices in the approaching 2012 Republican primary, Perry declined Tuesday to rule out a White House bid during a press conference about a new anti-abortion measure. Also Tuesday, his top strategist told the Tribune that the governor is, naturally, thinking about it given the flattering comments made recently by some in the GOP, although he doesnt see any change in his direction.
The Perry camp is still telegraphing the notion that the default position is not to run, but its safe to say they have cracked the door open, at least a little bit, over the last week. Specific wording matters a lot in these speculative political matters
Obviously, its flattering to have everybody, Rush Limbaugh and all these other conservative, right-of-center leaders, talk about you, urging you to think about it, urging you to run, saying they support you. But I dont see any difference in terms of the governors thinking, [Perry strategist Dave] Carney said.
Im sure hes thinking about it because its just human nature when you have Rush Limbaugh spend 20 minutes talking about you and have all these other people mention you, that you dont sort of think thats flattering and think about it.

That’s what the Baraqqis are counting on.
Pulling off a Clintonian plurality in a 3-way race.
There’s no way they win straight up.
Yep, and a Blue Blood RINO Pubbie.
Monday night I visited with a close friend of "Governor Rick" about the office of President. He has been friends with Rick since childhood. He told me that the only way Rick would run for President is if the National Republican leadership came to him directly and asked. In the past Rick has taken some real bone headed positions that are not defensible, but he is pro business, for lower taxes, for smaller government and he has really been in Obozo's face. That said he needs to stay in Texas.
You would honestly sit out and not fight against another 4 yrs of Obamah?
Come on now.
I hope you, like me, will vote early and vote straight party ticket.
I am a Texan and I could vote for him, especially if it was him or BO. Perry would be right of McCain but left of Palin. Maybe Perry/Palin?
What finalized it for me was that hysterical performance in Madison a few weeks back.
What a screeching harpy that woman can turn into when someone applies the pressure!
Under that sweet facade lies every divorced man’s screaming ex-wife.
I am an open-minded individual but shrieking harridans are more than my nervous system can take, whether it be the HildeBeast, Pelosi, or, unfortunately, Sarah.
Michele Bachmann, to me, has much more appeal. Strong conservative philosophy and a steady, controlled delivery to go with it.
Screw Iowa all they care about is ethanol.
Perry has been to Iowa -- in 2007, campaigning for Rudy Giuliani:
http://www.quickdfw.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/texassouthwest/stories/DN-perry_13nat.ART.State.Edition2.42063e3.html
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa Texas Gov. Rick Perry sought to sell Iowa Republicans on Rudy Giuliani on Monday, saying he's confident the former New York mayor would appoint Supreme Court judges to overturn legalized abortion.
Casting himself as "the most pro-life governor in Texas history," Mr. Perry said he's not troubled by Mr. Giuliani's history of supporting abortion rights. He said he has talked in detail with Mr. Giuliani and is comfortable that he would appoint conservative judges who would strictly interpret the Constitution. The result, he said, would be the reversal of the 1973 Roe vs. Wade decision.
I saw him on greta and thought he was good on the border issue. I’ll definitely take him over the rest of the crop.
“Rick Perry is the anti-Bush, a real Conservative, from what I can tell out here in the hinterlands.”
Bush was always personally hindered by the perception (perhaps justified in some cases) that he got everything in life because of his dad, and that cronyism played a big part in jobs he created.
You mean that howling union mob she was confronting face-to-face?
I disagree with you.
Stay safe..
Here's another one. The MSM is loaded for bear on Governor Goodhair.
In 1992 and 1996 H. Ross Perot, the Hand Grenade with the Bad Haircut, did those “third party” runs. Was their a deliberate ulterior motive? On thing to keep in mind that Perot was on Hillary Clinton’s secret health care panel. Thus my view of high profile third party candidates.
A more blatent example of third party subterfuge was the 2002 race for MN Second Congressional District. John Kline (R) was challenging the incumbent, John Luther (DFL). A third party candidate was running under the “No New Taxes Party”. Turned out to be a Sierra Club activist and a DFL operative looking to siphon conservative votes (there are some here in Minny). Still, Kline beat Luther.
Thus, as Rush says, I will vote for Elmer Fudd if he was the nominee. BARRY DUNHAM MUST GO!
Texans have good memories. RINORickGoodhair will not carry Texas if he runs.
And many of us with Tea Party connections will not be shy in sharing our reasons for opposing Perry...
Well then, you're just going to love THIS...
Perry v. Obama in Florida...Perry has an big edge..even in Pennsylvania...once you get out of Philly..Perry could connect with a lot of the blue collar types..Pittsburg area..
Here’s a Texan who would proudly vote for him!
Perry is very popular. Ears on the ground have that The Boy-Queen’s dis of Perry’s hand-delivered letter at the airport means war.
Perry is tough, smart, good politician, good man and can overcome the Bush legacy.
