The Pima County Sheriff's Department released a video Thursday that shows a SWAT team shooting into a suspect's house. He died after being shot 60 times.

Jose Guerena, 26, was shot and killed May 5 when Pima County authorities served a search warrant on his home.

The Sheriff's department says five SWAT team members fired more than 70 rounds in less than 10 seconds after the former Marine pointed an assault rifle at officers. His wife contends the family thought the officers were robbers. He was shot 60 times

If it truly is the case that you are not pro-drugs then what you should have done, instead of stealing a quote that was specifically directed at another, is referred to the general statement I made in this thread that would actually apply to yourself - and say that you do not feel like “a well meaning FReeper that is being used as a tool by the pro drug agenda people”.

But not to worry. I have become quite Pro at forum judo as I work down the thread leaving a trail of broken thugs behind me (figuratively speaking that is).

What the heck are you talking about?

You don’t get to make up your own rules. Quoting someone else’s post is NOT “stealing”.

...but not that many people have a loaded AR-15 within reach when someone knocks at the door.

LOL You did mean that as a joke didn't you?

I only heard the siren for a few seconds.

It sounded like a car alarm to me. I've never heard a siren that sounded like that.

Here is the scenario if you combine the video and the wife’s statements:

Guy in bed. Siren or car alarm goes off for 8 seconds. 0+14 Doesn’t pay much attention, but wife shows up saying she’s scared.

0+20 Rolls out of bed. Grabs rifle and tells the wife to hide.

0+28 Leaves bedroom.

0+30 End of hall, looking at the door.

Between 0+20 & 0+30, the police are saying something...identifying themselves, but hard to understand from the guy standing outdoors & 20 feet away. During this time, the guy is probably in his bedroom & talking with his wife. He’s probably been up for 10 seconds or so. Odds of hearing the cops? Not great.

0+33 Door opens from kicks.

0+40 Cops open fire.

What was the guy doing between 0+33 & 0+40? Well, he’s probably been awake for under 30 seconds. He probably been out of the bedroom for 10 seconds. The safety is on.

At 0+40, the cops open fire. The guy has not shot, but they see a man with a gun and the cops react.

For the sake of argument, let’s suppose this happened to me. The wife wakes me and tells me someone is at the door trying to get in. There was a car alarm or siren - don’t know which. I’d grab my 44 and go to look, and would probably get to the door about the time the cops came thru.

I would probably start to raise my gun, realize they were cops, and be lowering it at the same time the bullets start hitting me.

FWIW, I think the Marine was probably involved in crime. But if it happened at my house, I’d be just as dead, and we don’t normally give the death penalty to even violent criminals.

That is where my problem lies: Combine forced entry with a homeowner inclined to defend himself, and you have death by search warrant. And that is unacceptable in America.

I have become quite Pro at forum judo as I work down the thread leaving a trail of broken thugs behind me

Your inflated sense of self-worth has me laughing out loud.

I have been reading the thread with an open mind; I can see both sides of the issue.

But in your posts I see no judo; I see only semi-literate belligerant ranting and name-calling.

And that trail of broken thugs? Where is it? Those "thugs" you're calling out are making their case much more effectively than you are making yours.

Very good points.

The whole thing looks to me like incredible incompetence, excessive force, and wanton disregard of the lives of any and all inside the house, including the wife and kid.

Let’s say the lead-up investigation showed that the deceased was selling pot AND was likely to be armed. But he has no history of violence or even anything beyond a traffic ticket. Still, you (the arresting officers) have to be careful, right?

So, what the *expletive deleted* are the SWAT team members doing? It’s as if they did everything they could to guarantee a shootout. Yet if the deceased HAD been ready for them, as another poster has pointed out, he’d have drilled 2 or 3 of the officers, all grouped together so conveniently, before they got him.

Either the guy is deemed to be highly dangerous and you go in with REAL surprise, QUICKLY (and maybe put stun grenades through all windows?), or, you have a freakin’ bullhorn, announce yourself clearly and repeatedly over a period of a few minutes from safe cover, and give the guy a chance to see your several marked vehicles and overwhelming force, and surrender.

Incidentally, relevant from a different angle: http://www.semissourian.com/story/1712037.html

Well they just convicted a man in Oklahoma for FIRST DEGREE MURDER for killing a subject that no longer was a threat. So these donut munching special operator wannabees go full auto on a search warrant with a baby in the house.

good intel, great weapon control, nice target acquisition and fire discipline. I guess thats what they mean by "special" weapons and tactics.

nothing more than a group of guys from the police bowling team or softball team with super-dee-duper gear. Well he was only a former Marine, working the graveyard shift, defending his house and expecting some form of professionalism and competence from law enforcement personnel assigned to protect his family and himself for the taxes he paid. If his squad had done this in Iraq he'd have JAG so far up his a** that he wouldn't walk straight for years.

these guys will get together, have a beer and tell themselves how really great they are. Then collect some job related workers comp disability in addition to some overtime enhanced pension. Cause the really important thing for the SWAT team is to "come home safely" after their shift. Just ask them. F'ing clown posse , keystone-kops

Yes because you say so. But you sure sound like a complaining broken thug yourself, so put some ice on it.

BTW, I was using humor while explaining why it is wrong to steal a quote out of context, so lighten up.

But you know what else is funny, you see nothing wrong with stealing a quote out of context. In fact, you brag about that as being effective.

Do you want to know what that makes *you* look like?

I'll let you think about it.

You're right. Mine is in a central location that I can get to fairly quickly from anywhere in the house.

The .45 I carry is to allow me to fight my way to the black rifle...

while Klaus the Wonderdog make a meal out of whoever is coming in the door.

So maybe this was a dangerous person.

I would hope that any man would become dangerous when his door comes crashing in with his family inside.
