Man in uniform at school event was not in Navy, officials say

A man who appeared in a Navy SEAL uniform at a Thousand Oaks school event this week apparently never served in the Navy, military officials said Wednesday.

Salhem Dreasden was among those in uniform Tuesday at a tribute to soldiers at Ladera School. The school was honored at the event for outstanding patriotism and support of the armed forces.

Dreasden was wearing a Navy uniform that bore his last name, the words "SEAL TEAM," the trident pin insignia of the elite unit and twin bars indicating the rank of Navy lieutenant.

The name Salhem Dreasden, however, does not appear anywhere in databases of Navy service members that go back to at least the Vietnam War, said Katie Suich, a spokeswoman for the Navy Personnel Command in Tennessee. There aren't any S. Dreasdens in the database, either, she said.

Clue #1 - Sloppy assed salute.

Clue #2 - Too fat to be a SEAL.

Clue #3 - Too young to be a Lieutenant.

Just look at the picture. Saluting without a cover is not permitted in the Navy or Marine Corps. That right there ought to tip people off that this guy wasn’t in the Navy. Also, does anyone think a Navy Seal as young as this guy looks to be would be lumpy and fat?

Note the salute angle compared with the real servicemen’s. Maybe that gave him away? I never served but am under the impression that that there’s a right way to salute.

The salute looks wrong, and check out the guy behind and to his left - looks like he’s eyeballing Dreasden.

The first thing he needs to learn is how to execute a proper salute. When I was the lowliest of low midshipmen, I learned that on about day 2. You can spot this guy as a fraud just from that.

I suggest that REAL veterans beating this poseur to a bloody pulp would be THEIR expression of free speech...

String him up. The reason more than just being a jerk is because for everyone one of these turds it really puts a cloud of suspicion on all Navy Seals and other military folks. That salute gives the fraud away pretty clearly. Now some schools will use this story as an excuse not to have military visiting the schools.

Didn’t know that the seals had fat officers that don’t know how to salute.

Questions about Dreasden's service were first raised in an online special operations community forum called SOCNET.com.
I haven't been able to find a Stolen Valor Ping List. Is there one, already? If not, is there any interest in starting one?

What’s the big deal.

Dick Blumenthal, draft dodger, lied about serving in Vietnam.

And he’s a Senator now.

On Memorial Day I saw a U.S. Navy commander in dress blue uniform wearing the trident at Fort Rosecrans Cemetery on Point Loma (San Diego). He was visiting the graves of Iraqi War dead, including dead sailors. I specifically noticed that he was not wearing a name tag.
