The SWAT officers who shot and killed a man while serving a search warrant last month gave at least two commands for someone to open the door before knocking it open, according to documents released Friday.
The officers told investigators that, upon opening the door, they saw a man appear in the hallway holding a rifle before they saw what they thought were muzzle flashes from his gun.
It was later determined Jose Guerena's rifle was on safety and he didn't fire at the officers.
The Pima County Sheriff's Department released hundreds of evidence photos and transcribed interviews with the SWAT officers who fired at Guerena during the raid on his home May 5.
The photos show the interior of Guerena's home - its walls painted a dark gray - and evidence collected at his home and three others searched that day. The photos show guns, ammunition, vehicles, cash, documents, cellphones and other items found at the homes or in the vehicles.

....and then LIE about the circumstances, as the video clearly shows, in order to avoid responsibilty.
Serve and Protect....Riiiiiight.
Only a day or two after the shootings the PIMA SD was saying that the SWAT had mistaken a falling member's shots hitting the door jamb as fire from Guerena.
It seems they've stopped saying that now.
Interesting how that falling SWAT member is making a point of saying now that he was in the process of reloading when he was falling.
Yep, tomorrow it will be 1 month since the incident.
But remember, the quick acting Dupnik is in charge. The Police Chief who said it was the T-Party that was responsible for Congresswoman Giffords being shot. (with Zero evidence and he knew the shooter had mental problems which he covered for the shooter's mother).
One of my friends was on a swat team doing no-knocks. He quit doing it after the last one where they busted in and trashed the wrong apartment leaving a mother and teenage daughter terrified with the door off the hinges. He said the team was filled with super cops and stuff like that was bound to happen eventually. Now he’s back to doing just regular police duty.
I suppose that will be considered spying. Don't worry though. I believe community service is the penalty now.
Now that’s just offensive!!! My husband is a police executive and the people in his department are good, honest and sincere officers who do their work everyday and hope to make it home alive at the end of their day.
If you think you could do a better job, go get your degree, put on a uniform, and work generally less armed than the perps out there. !
I am not denying that there are bad apples in police departments, but to say that all LEOs are liars is wrong and I think you know that!
I always find it interesting that Freepers hate cops in general. They do mostly try to protect and serve the public.
The article doesn’t actually say any of these photos were of the victim’s home. They mixed in photos of other houses searched that day.
Everyone of these butt wipes should be prosecuted. Starting with the sheriff.
Watch. Anyday now Dupnik will start saying that Guerena was part of the local TEA Party.
It's a gang with membership requirements.
Loyalty to the gang above all.
Ask your hubby if he is allowed to lie to alleged perps.
I watched a documentary on Weaver the other night. I firmly believe the founding fathers did not think it would be okay for federal cops with federal money and federal equipment to go after citizens. In Waco they used Army equipment that was supposedly operated by non-military personnel? Does that make it right? At Ruby Ridge a federal cop shot a 12 years old boy and a dog.
I suppose that might be the case in some small town somewhere, where there are some honest ones left.
Here in Tucson it’s loyalty to their gang and to their union. All while whining that they need more grift money.
When the La Raza spawn chained themselves to desks and started chanting like savages about a month ago, the head cop supported his “people” over the taxpayers. The last head cop left at a young age to go double dip and grift the taxpayers some more. I think he was an affirmative action hire as well.
Meanwhile, at every tea party or protest, or even a small, older crowd concert downtown, the cops swarm like bees, practically drooling to throw someone down.
I’d say that I used to be more on the law & order’s side. Not anymore after I’ve seen how they’re turning on the citizenry. And that’s not even the SWAT, ATF, TSA, and the rest of the tyrannical Stasi.
It's been my experience that FReepers respect the law. What they hate is when those "bad apples" as you call them, break the law and get away with it because the "good apples"(?) lie to protect them or simply look the other way.
I spent 57 years in NYC, I now live in the boonies and so I've seen how the police work in both environs. I wouldn't give a bucket of cold goat phlegm for either force.
The key word you used is “mostly”.
I was a cop once for a very short time. I watched cops lie everyday. And I never once saw another cop report it. In fact, I saw some stuff, including a cop hitting a handcuffed man, and was told very matter of factly to keep my mouth shut. The cop eventually went to work for the state police. Years later I read where he had been charged with soliciting a woman during a traffic stop.
My husband is a police executive and the people in his department are good, honest and sincere officers who do their work everyday and hope to make it home alive at the end of their day.
I can appreciate the way you feel; I live near Philadelphia where cop killing is becoming sport.
I always find it interesting that Freepers hate cops in general..
I don't believe that. I'm not here to get into some flame war, but consider this:
You just made a blanket statement yourself. that FReepers hate cops in general. Just think about it for a minute.
I am stealing your Tagline

Nope, I respect the military and the police. I do not think that we need SWAT teams except in very rare cases, usually hostage situations. I despise the "militarization" of the Law Enforcement organizations. Our founders saw fit to make law enforcement "state" and "local" and avoided a Federal Police force. They were much smarter and more honest than our current politicians.
Well said, thank your husband for being a respectful honest professional.
Been there, done that, you’re correct.
Jose Guerena was born in Mexico and I understand that his wife was an illegal alien. Does anyone know if Jose Guerena was an illegal alien? His whole family is under investigation.
The Marines have a big problem with gang membership. The Mexican gangs are getting the best military training in the world from American taxpayers! The SWAT team had every reason to expect great danger going into that house.
The cop-haters on FR just don’t want to deal with the problems of the Mexican drug gang invasion in southern Arizona.
Americans are subject to unconstitutional no-knocks because our borders are not enforced. The people on this thread have their own agenda.
