Chris Matthews' New Thrill? Hardball Hosts Flips and Praises 'Serious,' 'Informed' Bachmann
NewsBuusters ^ | 14 Jun 2011 | Scott Whitlock

What is Chris Matthews up to? The MSNBC anchor, who once trashed Michele Bachmann as a "zombie" and a "nutcase," on Tuesday praised the Congresswoman as "poised, informed and serious." Touting Bachmann's performance in Monday's Republican presidential debate, he gushed that the Representative did "great."

The Hardball host, who once battled with Bachmann and wondered if she was "hypnotized," hyped that the debate saw "the emergence of a star." He added, "[Bachmann] was, of course, created here. She came off as...poised, informed and serious. Could she be the candidate that Sarah Palin was supposed to be?"

In an amusing moment, Matthews prefaced a question to Jennifer Donahue of the Huffington Post by proclaiming, "I'm not an active Republican." Regular viewers of MSNBC probably already know that.

A partial transcript of the June 16 segment can be found below:

5pm

CHRIS MATTHEWS: Maybe the biggest story from last night was not Romney's cool or Pawlenty's retreat, but the emergence of a star, Michele Bachmann. She was, of course, created here. She came off as poised, informed, that's right, Gene, poised, informed and serious. Could she be the candidate that Sarah Palin was supposed to be?

5:19

MATTHEWS: Well, there's a woman, person, a friend not afraid of the mainstream media.

MICHAEL STEELE: That's right. She's not.

MATTHEWS: No hiding over in Fox land. First of all, what did you think of her performance last night? Because we all thought she was great.

My goodness, Michelle has her law degree, was a tax lawyer and has been in Congress now for a few terms. All while helping the 23 or whatever children. And Bachmann has no fear of any interviews or interviewers unlike Palin.

With all due respect, none of that is executive experience.

Executive experience means management and taking the responsibility for results. Not theory, education, or policy.

Still, I would definitely go for Palin/Bachmann.

I wonder if Governor Palin would require her VP candidate to have executive experience.

I suspect President-elect Sarah Palin might settle for a VP with a whole career of military executive experience.

I think Michele is being used..she is being used by the press(by making her think they actually support her) and she is being used by that goon Rollins. Why would she pick someone who just in January said the exact same thing about her..Rollins called Bachmann “Not serious” back in January, why would she want that guy running her campaign. I think she is being set up..she thinks the media likes her now(I hope she knows the drill and will not fall into their trap) this is all a set-up to take Sarah out of the running, put Michele in, and at the end, screw her over so Romney ends up with the nomination. Even though I was skimming through the channels, saw a clip for Entertainment Tonight(That show is such a liberal love-fest) and they were talking about how Michele is the “New Sarah Palin” weird, how she can be the new Sarah Palin when the real one is still around..its obvious, they are trying to replace Sarah with Michele so at the end she gets the knife in the back by the press. Ive supported Michele and I think she is a good, decent person, her picking Rollins did rub me the wrong way because I dont take kindly to backstabbing, but she is being set-up and when she falls she is gonna fall hard

The leftist lice are praising and elevating Bachmann in an effort to discourage Palin from running. They will fail again.

Bachmann is to Palin as John the Baptist was to Jesus.

Bachmann is out there taking the flak and preparing the way.

Madame Palin shall make her grand entrance very soon, probably at the end of summer.

I find this whole discussion of who can beat Obama funny. There are more Conservatives then there are Dem's. the Independent voters have already said Obama is destroying the country. So that leaves them two choices vote Republican or stay home. So IMHO anyone that runs against Obama is the winner. If indies all stay home we win because we outnumber libs. If indies vote it will be against Obama. It is a win -win game for Republicans. As long as they do not put Romney as the candidate. Because he will drive away conservatives in droves. This is why the media wants him to be the candidate.

What Matthews thinks of Bachmann has no effect on me.

Why does everything have to be about 'you'?

(just kidding with ya!)

It would seem the real issue is why are staunch liberals claiming they love Bachmann?

If Michele weren't taking her cues from a backstabbing weasel

Aren't most campaign managers 'backstabbing weasels'?

That would be true if one ignores the illegal voting, rigged voting machines, and the fact that the President is elected by the 'electoral college' and not the popular vote.

“I think the GOP (fueled by the MSM) wants the public to think that there is friction between the two women, and that this appearance of a feud or “catfight” will be off-putting and tarnish BOTH women with the voters. They want Romney to hover above the “fray” and look like the serious candidate who will get things done.”....

BINGO!

Bingo and Matthews couldn’t be more obvious about this. I’m surprised everyone here did not immediately pick up on what is the latest liberal tactic to choose the Rep. nominee.

Simple.... they want Bachmann to run, NOT Palin.

Bachman is interested and announced her run. Palin owes it to her supporters to make up her mind. Either she wants to lead the country or she doesn't.

Palin has a fear of interviewers? Honey, there’s a big difference between fear and choosing not to be used as a ratings draw by people who stab you in the back on a daily basis.

I’m a Palin supporter and she doesn’t owe me anything. If/when she announces, it will be part of her larger strategy, not because some folks are whining on a political forum.

Matthews makes my point for me...was only a couple months ago he said Bachmann was even nuttier than Palin, heard him with my own ears.

He spent days beating her up, now he is considering voting for her...LOL you nutty people

He desperately wants MB to win the nomination, because it`s Palin that they fear.
