I also picture a scenario like this, who would I trust to hold a shotgun to defend my family from a Grizzly bear lurking in the brush?
Mz. Pretty Smiling face, or mama Grizzly herself?
The idea that we should elect our leaders based on how they perform in debates is really a stupid idea. Leadership is not the ability to articulate a position or spin the language to make your ideas more palatable to itchy ears. Leadership is a quality that is both rare and hard to define.
Grace under pressure and the ability to fight on in the face of defeat are at least a couple of the marks of a true leader. Nobody running in this election has faced more adversity with grace than Sarah Palin has. She inspires me like no other candidate since Reagan. She continues to rise from the ashes of defeat.
Even in the face of a media blitz that has inspired death threat against her and her children, her infective smile is clealy genuine.
America needs a true leader and not an eloquent debater to lead us out of the quagmire and back to our place as the shining city on a hill. IMO Sarah Palin is the only person running right now that can can lead us up that path.
Sarah has been getting the attention but it’s really Michele who would make the best President in my mind. (Not that I wouldn’t want to see Sarah elected either.) One should recall it was Michele Bachmann that called for the big Tea Party rally on the mall on 9/12. Compared to any Republican man running today, I’d go with Michele.
This election won’t be on ideology or personality. It will be on the economy. Obama will lose but to whom? It’s important the conservatives get the right person in.
IMO, it comes down to this. Bachmann had developed over the past two years into a spectacular leader of the conservative movement. She has become extremely disciplined. Problem for many of us in the conservative movement is that we strongly favor executive experience where leadership and decision making skills are on full display. Bachmann is relatively new to the scene and does not have that background. She is new enough and outside the ‘establishment’ that she hasn’t even gotten on the leadership track in the House. This gives me pause in supporting her. I’d rather see so done who has held a similar role in either the public or private sector.
Maybe they fire you up so much because they are not candidates, you want what you cant have... the grass always looks greener.... Bachmann has stepped up to the plate and is doing a good job there, give her credit for that.
Who is this silent majority you are thinking of that all feel like you? (Palin or Perry) How many states will they be able to win in 2012 that Bachmann wouldnt?
Philosophically we FReepers line up well with Bachmann, but she’s a voter, not a leader. Plus her stint with Treasury turns me off a bit.
At this point in her career Michele has the skills of a great general, a leader of troops. She does not yet project the aura of a supreme commander, the leader of all. She is of great value to the GOP and Tea Party. She should develop her skill set further and one day she may be ideal for the supreme commander position.
Apparently she really shouldn’t have you ringing doorbells and doing conservative flips to get her elected.
The “There’s Something About Bachmann” thread.
Am working my way past some of this; but has been a slow turn. Of those running, thus far, however; she stands in front of the line. (Just keep looking over her head.)
I like her, but I think she needs executive experience to go further up the line. Also needs to learn to speak in a more authoritative style. At times, she sounds almost whiny and pleading to me rather than forceful. She is very smart, telegenic, and has good command of the issues. Great potential, just not yet.
She lost me when Rollins came out swinging at Sarah Palin. I would crawl through a blizzard to vote for Palin. Bachmann, not so much. It’ll be interesting to see how she handles herself when those 23 foster kids she’s always bringing up start selling their stories to the media.
I agree with you, but can’t offer a reason why either.
I don’t connect with any of them. I am not supposed to. I am supposed to choose a real live imperfect human being as conservative as possible and fully capable and qualified to beat the most dangerous and worst failure that is Barack Obama.
I really like her. I really like Palin, too. I am proud of these conservative women who uphold tradition and yet possess all the values and qualities any feminist should admire.
I think Palin should not run for Pres, she should stay in the public as the ‘inspiration’ for conservative values. She is so charismatic. Bachman...I like her style and what she represents. I think Palin could replace Oprah...and I wish she would consider a daily TV presence much like Oprah.
If Bachman got the nomination I would vote for her. But I would vote for Howdy Doody if he was running against Obama.
Difference is Bachmann has a record of votes on National Issues, giving her a track record that can be perused. Palin has no National Voting Record and has merely stated her opinions. Palin can be anything and everything you want her to be at this point, like that perfect girl you dream over until you date her and find out she chews with her mouth open! lol
