Housing vouchers a golden ticket to pricey suburbs
Washington Post ^

CHARLOTTE — It was clear that Liza Jackson’s luck had changed when she drove her pearl-white Dodge sedan, the one with the huge pink plastic eyelashes over the headlights, into Pinebrook, an eight-year-old subdivision where residents tend to notice cars with huge pink eyelashes.

“There goes the neighborhood,” one homeowner said when she heard that her potential new neighbor had a federal housing voucher known as a Section 8.

As a small-time landlord, in over 30 years, I have never had a section 8 tenant mow the lawn, clean up the outside, or even water a flower bed.

OTOH, I have had plenty of damage inside, pit bull dogs, and wild kids damaging all property in sight.

You can take the tenant out of the ghetto, but you can't take the ghetto out of the tenant.

"Yes, of course, give ghetto people food stamps or low-income housing if they need it.."

My, but aren't you generous with other peoples money? Who is going to take it from me? You?

Think of it as school choice for homeowners, vouchers and all.

mark for later

Sec 8 sucks.

When the Calif housing authority started doing this in the 60’s, they called it “blockbusting,” and it was done intentionally and spitefully.

It's the New "American Dream".....having your very own Section 8 Voucher.

The entire Federal Government is, in military terms, "Section 8".

“””But Jackson could well be Pinebrook’s salvation, a means by which landlords can rent an empty, crime-magnet of a house to a tenant with a steady, government-backed check.”””

From my personal experience Section 8 is a crime magnet for government backed drugusers to vandalize your property.

Homeowners beware. If a Section 8 tenant vandalizes your property, you pay the damages. If your property is vandalized by a street thug, your insurance company pays the damages.

“Why, on the taxpayer dime, should we screw up suburban neighborhoods?”

Welcome to the Detroit suburbs.

The purpose of Section 8 is to import Democrat voters into non-Democrat areas and swamp out their votes.

So, figuring she is paying $200 a month, the taxpayers are giving Liza nearly $10,000 a year (possibly more with utilities) in addition to other government assistance she receives.

It's winning situation for Liza and the speculator who buys up foreclosed properties - all financed by the U.S. Taxpayer.

How do people with jobs & ‘children’ of working age qualify for Section 8 housing, or any subsidies?

I think you are asking about the wrong program....that would be the eugenics program.

but not in neighborhoods where the ruling elite live who get to make these decisions that ruin other’s lives. It never happens in their neighborhood.

This is an assault on the lower middle working class. They are the ones who get hurt.I bought a nice modest house in a nice neighborhood years ago and then the government moved in some Section 8 people nearby. This reduced the market price of my house and I had to sell it for less. Cost me several thousand dollars.

If you are tich you can buy a house in upscale area that government doesn't put Section 8 people in.

The inmates are truly running the asylum.

Once to get a Section 8 you must be nuts.

Now we're nuts and giving them!

You gotta look at the bright side. By allowing these folks to destroy a lot of housing it reduces the oversupply of homes on the market. Call it a stimulus program.

We are often told of “unaffordable housing” problems when the biggest problem is unaffordable PEOPLE.

>>Her “vouchre” is $1032 per MONTH!

Holy s***. This is just stupid. I bought a foreclosure about 7 miles from Charlotte and will probably pay $700 for a 5 year old house.

Section 8 needs to go; no wonder marriage and other hard-working blue collar values are going down the toilet so fast.
