Life would be a whole lot simpler if our omniscient Founding Fathers had left us a Constitution replete with footnotes, references and Cliffs Notes so it would be clear to all concerned how to correlate the intent of their 1776 utterances with the realities of 2011. They didn't, so we are left to speculate.
In regard to the "right to bear arms," I'm willing to concede that under our Constitution, citizens possibly have the right to carry a concealed weapon to work, to the dentist, the hairdresser, golfing, to the synagogue or the movies.
My question is who would want to? With crime rates falling in even our toughest neighborhoods, who besides paramilitary militias could possibly conceive of a clear and present danger that daily necessitates carrying a gun?
Whatever possesses a person to get all obsessed about "carrying" while living and working in ZIP codes where the incidence of violent crime is minuscule? Some say there is a need for concealed carry in these areas because you never know when there might be a need for self-protection from attack by an itinerant vicious assailant.

WOW! How do you not blow a gasket at these people?
to the author...
OK... if I see you being mugged and/or raped, I will NOT use my GUN to protect you ..
in return you STFU??
And why do you think that is, moron?
Ah... maybe talk to some victims in Chicago?
They did. One part of the collection is customarily referred to as "The Federalist Papers". If the author of this piece (OS) could read it would have been worth his time to have a go at them.
The liberal line is so easy. Every morning is a new day with a new set of facts and the joy of declaring a new line of bull$hit with no foundation. Every evening is a new dusk of nobody calling you on it either.
Disarming your potential enemies remains a top priority for the radical left. It was for Hitler too.
Try telling that to the victims of the flash mobs in Chicago, Philly, Peoria and who knows how many places that don't make the news. The cops don't even try to stop them.
Another liberal who, in professing to lecture, gets a basic fact wrong. 1776 was the Declaration of Independence, of course, not the Constitution, which was 1787. And the 2d Amendment was later still, in 1791.
If he’d just left out the “1776” it’d be ok (on this score), of course, but no: He HAS to show us he’s mastered the DETAILS of history. Oh, irony.
“a Constitution replete with footnotes, references and Cliffs Notes”
I guess John never read the Federalist Papers.
Or any writings by Jefferson, Madison, Franklin and a few other ‘utterances’ by these and other founders.
But, that wouldn’t fit his agenda.
Better to be ‘ignorant than wrong’. Right John?
I hear, every single day, about crimes where I say to myself....I say, “Self, those crimes would never have happened if those people carried a firearm.”
I am a firm supporter of the right to keep guns and ammunition at home, one’s place of business and maybe in one’s vehicle. I do not support carrying a gun on one’s person as one goes about their daily affairs. If many people start carrying guns on a daily basis eventually we will be back to Dodge City 1870. It might be wise to remember that even “wild west towns” restricted the carrying of fire arms.
I’ve got to see a picture of this guy.
Really?! Well then, I'm willing to concede that under our Constitution, citizens possibly have the right to speak what they think with restraint from their government (from those who fancy themselves the rulers of the rest of us)
It’s hard to deal with people who write stuff like this. He probably feels so good writing it.
He would probably dirty his drawers if he knew how many of his fellow citizens were now legally carrying.......probably some on his own staff.
“If many people start carrying guns on a daily basis eventually we will be back to Dodge City 1870.”
Ummm.. You better look around you.
Daily ‘carry’ has been going on for a very long time.
Don’t see no ‘Dodge City 1870’ sprouting up either, pardner!
Well, considering 48 states currently have legal concealed carry (with WI becoming the 49th), I'd expect you to be able to cite rigorous studies showing how increased concealed carry leads to increased gun violence before you spout Brady-Center type jibberish on FR.
Until then, get lost.
