Officials identified 1 out of every 17 Denver police officers as having serious discipline issues

“City officials have identified one out of every 17 Denver police officers as having discipline issues serious enough that their courtroom testimony may be suspect.”

Denver’s Police Department has been stupidly run and marginally corrupt — not as bad as Chicago perhaps — as long as I can remember, so much so that the city more or less has a budget item in the millions of dollars every year for settlements with people unjustifiably killed or wounded by police. (After a real surge in those cases, the City of Denver hired a new Director of Public Safety who has been firing some bad eggs … so of course now the police union is lobbying to fire him.) In this case, the Denver PD is required to notify defense attorneys of any possibly important facts; when they have a cop who is one of these, the Denver PD sends a notice, quote:

“The District Attorney has received notice that this officer has been subject to an administrative finding that may or may not prove relevant if he or she testifies in a criminal matter. Information regarding this administrative proceeding should be obtained through the Denver Police Department’s Civil Liabilities Bureau.”

When the defense attorneys try to find out what the issue is, they’re often told those are personnel records, and thus cannot be released.

Might, Public Unions and hiring quotas have something to do with this problem? Just saying.

One out of 17 is high to me. If this behavior is bad enough to affect their courtroom testimony then they should be done as a LEO. Imagine how many cases can be dismissed or found not guilty based on testimony from a cop that no one believes or trusts. Time to say “bye bye” to them. IMHO

Mom is right. WHen an officer is no longer able to testify, he should no longer be employed.
This is why most police agencies fire an officer when they determine he has lied. He cannot perform effectively and cannot perform important elements of the job based on his own actions.

Enact Constitutional Carry and then fire 1/3 of the Denver cops, starting with those with “problems’ in their records.

If they were to tell the truth the number would be reversed, that is to say one out of seventeen is a normal functioning person and not some sort of pervert.

FWIW, two years ago I was at the wake of a respected Denver police captain. One of his eulogizers made sure to emphasize the deceased's habit of warning others "Don't Tarnish the Badge."

Perhaps the speaker wanted to rebuke any officers in attendance whose activities were questionable or corrupt.

That is grounds to be terminated in federal law enforcement. There is a name for it related to the court precedence, but I can't remember it off the top of my head.

Not saying it happens every time, but is a common result of an integrity issue.

Police Unions exist to fleece the tax payer and protect crooked cops.

I know Denver police officers, and Denver is no better and no worse than any other place. The police department is a big bureaucracy, riddled with PC, and used as a combination tool and fall-guy by the mayor and city government. So what else is new?

A lot of these complaints are from people like the yuppies who call the police “pigs” most of the time getting annoyed that the police didn’t drop everything to solve their burglary (when they had left their house unlocked and had not marked their property!) or somebody feeling she wasn’t treated with the appropriate kid gloves when making her latest outrageous claim against an ex-boyfriend.

The Denver police are always under attack from the Boulder libs, the usual “black clergy” and the press, and it’s sad that everybody on FR is stupid enough to fall for it.

“Black Clergy” in Denver?
No. We have a lot of cops on steroids that like to beat the hell out of people just for breathing but “Black Clergy” is a regional thing we just do not have.

No...Denver has a lot of short cops. It’s an attitude problem.

Look at the governor who didn’t run again (due to some serious charges that he never successfully refuted).

Look at the joke of a Denver (sanctuary city) corrupt mayor who’s now governor. He is even more inane sounding in interviews than Obama sans teleprompter...but the Repubs couldn’t even mount a sane challenger.

Look at the “new” Denver mayor who just escaped serious prostitution charges only because a robbery of the records “just happened” right after the Denver Post agreed to help cover things up.

Folks, Colorado is headed to “Illinois West” territory.

It’s called a “Brady List” after the 1963 SCOTUS case Brady vs. Maryland.

I couldn’t remember if there was another more specific case or not. Thanks.

Go ask a certain Asian cop about that...he experienced them about 3 years ago, lost his reputation, his job and almost went to jail...just for doing his job. You have a lot of “black clergy,” also sometimes referred to as “black leaders,” who are ready to stir up trouble at the drop of a hat.

It’s a Dem town, and the police are always the enemies there, except when the thugs come out to mug the young suburbanites at the bars downtown, and then everybody screams about it and says the police didn’t do enough because they didn’t bash heads in and beat the hell out of the thugs.

You need to look up “Brady List” and then reread this story. These cops cannot testify in court because a judge or prosecutor found them to be lying in court and placed them on the Brady list.

They didn’t end up their because of complaints from yuppies...
