Palin warns Boehner on debt ceiling
The Hill ^ | July 10, 2011 | Erik Wasson

Posted on 07/10/2011 4:36:27 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin has issued a stern warning to House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) as Boehner sits down with President Obama Sunday night to negotiate a raising of the debt ceiling: don't do it.

Palin, in an interview appearing in Newsweek, “made it clear that she’s against any deal that raises the debt ceiling and would hold House Speaker John Boehner’s feet to the fire if he agreed to one” according to the magazine.

“No, we have to cut spending. It is imperative, and I will be very, very disappointed if Boehner and the leaders of the Republican Party cave on any kind of debt deal in the next couple of months,” she said.

Palin last month told Fox News that she would be against any raising of the debt ceiling and favors holding the line and slashing spending across the board instead.

But she acknoweldged that Congress will likely raise the debt ceiling anyway.

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner again on Sunday said that the U.S. credit rating would suffer if the debt limit is not raised by Aug. 2—a prospect that would lead to higher interest rates and lower economic growth.

Only a small minority of Republicans in Congress, such as presidential candidate Rep. Michelle Bachmann (R-Minn.) are taking the “just say no” approach to the debt ceiling. Most Tea Party-backed members in the House favor tying a raising of the debt ceiling to cuts, spending caps and a balanced budget amendment.

In the Newsweek interview, Palin brags that she could win the White House if she chooses to run for it in 2012.

Yes, but with Boehner its just mental illness.

Thanks for your post. You reminded me of another situation where Mrs. Bachmann had an opportunity to step forward and act like a leader, but failed.

She said her support for the Ryan Plan came with an asterisk. Why? Because seniors don't understand the plan.

Real leaders sign on and sell it. Bachmann was cloaking herself in a political calculation. That demonstrates to me that she doesn't have the heart of a leader.

If her high negatives have been debunked, I missed it. Please show how it has been debunked.

1. High negatives also mean high name recognition.

2. High negatives also represent high resentment by the extreme left -- who aren't going to be voting for any Republican in any event. So, why do we care?

3. High negatives among independents can be readily reversed by personal appearances demonstrating that you're not what the MSM (who has little credibility, anyway) has said you are.

Four weeks of campaigning would totally turn the table on this particular argument.

I also think Norm that some women seek negatives on her for reasons of physical jealousy and it just is what it is. I just pray that when the time comes to place their votes it is about this country and what is best for our future.

Boehner is going to cave as is his nature. If Palin wants in this fight I am all for it but she needs to weigh in soon or she will be left behind. Bachmann is out there taking the heat. Why isn't’t Palin?

Maybe Palin is waiting to see what the republicans do with the debt ceiling. This debt ceiling talk has been going on for months.

My husband always asks what i want for my birthday & I have always told him something small because I have everything I need. He complaints because I buy him big gifts. This year I will ask for a big gift & he will give it to me. My birthday money will go to Sarah's campaign.

Whoever said they know Sarah will win is right. I just know deep down she is going to win. All these prayers we have been praying are being heard. Reading her words here just confirmed it for me.

Conservativegreatgrandma. Haven't you ever known deep down something was going to happen? You just knew it, and it happens.

Sarah Palin had the highest gubernatorial approval ratings in Gallup’s history in the state with the highest number of independents.

Those independents are also the last to make up their opinions before election day. They also vote in lower numbers, which means that the question is which candidate best motivates their pool of voters from among this somewhat indifferent pool.

We need the strongest, most inspiring and principled candidate we can find to take on Obama in 2012 and get the required number of those independents out to vote.

I submit that the libertarian-leaning Palin is the best hope we have for a candidate to do that, and going by polls a year and a half before the election is no way to understand that.

Better wipe those glasses then. The rest of us see rockstar like behavior from the public everytime she shows up in public. Tens of thousands of people drove hundreds/thousands of miles to see her on a plot of dirt in the middle of the Nevada desert...And on her bus tour...and in Wisconson...and at her book signings..and...and...and...

Not one other candidate, including the President himself (who has had multiple cased of ‘free tickets’ to fill seats lately) draws that kind of crowd.

But you just keep reading MSM push polls that say the opposite of what our lying eyes tell us. Over and over.

Say, wasn’t there just another incident of a few thousand “Palin haters” showing up there in Iowa a week ago? Something about a movie I think....

Ping! A priceless offshoot from the Newsweek article...more pressure on the feckless GOP Establishment to do the right thing.

I see that Zero has a news conference tomorrow at 11AM to put pressure and whine about the rascally republicans not coming up with a debt ceiling deal this weekend. Would be great if Candidate Palin announced and gave a scathing rebuttal about 12:30 PM!

I hopey Boehner is challenged in his primary,

What a woos. We need leadership and Boehner isn't fully charged to
handle the tasks he's entrusted with. IMO

Boehner should tell them he won’t consider revenue changes until the Democrats pass the spending cuts they’d promised Reagan and Bush1.

First a no confidence vote in his Speakership, then primary him. We get nowhere with his Democrat behavior at the helm.

It does none of us any good to see things through rose colored glasses.

Especially when you have optical rectitus like you seem to have. That is a condition that develops when the optic nerve gets crossed with the rectal nerve and you get a s###ty outlook on life.

You one note tune is getting more than a little boring.
