Angry John Boehner rallies GOP troops on debt limit
Politico ^ | July12 ,2011 | JOHN BRESNAHAN & JAKE SHERMAN & JONATHAN ALLEN |

Speaker John Boehner told a closed gathering of House Republicans on Tuesday morning that he was “pissed” over being unable to reach a “grand bargain” with President Barack Obama to make sweeping entitlement changes in return for an overhaul of the U.S. tax code.

But Boehner also accused Obama of failing to lead on the impending crisis over boosting the $14.3 trillion debt limit, according to people inside the GOP meeting.

But while Boehner was trying to rally his Republican troops Tuesday morning, he did warn them that they will quickly lose leverage in the debate as the country grows closer to the Aug. 2 debt default deadline and Wall Street and business leaders pressure them to cut a deal.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, who opposed Boehner’s efforts to cut a “grand slam” deal with Obama, was just as blunt as the speaker. Cantor told rank-and-file Republicans that unless Democrats drop their insistence on tax increases as part of an agreement to raise the debt ceiling, there may be no compromise possible with Obama and Democratic congressional leaders.

“If the Democrats continue to insist on tax increases, there is no viable path forward,” Cantor warned, according to sources.

The overwhelming sentiment from House Republicans, according to those present in the room, was that even $2 trillion in cuts over 10 years — roughly what is being discussed at the White House meetings — isn’t sufficient. Republicans want even more cuts, and they want them immediately. Moderate Rep. Cliff Stearns of Florida, a 22-year veteran of the House, stood up and said $2.5 trillion wasn’t enough for a deal.

Florida Rep. Allen West emerged from the meeting to say that he didn’t want “fairy dust spending cuts” that are projected over the next decade.

Probable truth there —the lamestream media will be pushing the faux Presidents agenda.MSNBC,ABC, CBS and the rest will be
blaming the Republicans and insisting that We the people are too stupid to understand our nuanced First black President.

This is politico talking. They wrote the article and they controlled how they presented the material.

You could easily read the quote as meaning Boehner was warning them it’s going to get tougher as the deadline looms, not easier, to hold against tax increases and phony cuts (that never happen), to prepare them, to buck them up for the fight.

I say politico deliberately manipulated this material trying to portray Boehner as weak.

It worked on you.

It rolls off me like water off a duck’s back.

I apologize if I came across as Boehner being a total sell-out. I was fresh from this video of BOR making a non vote on raising the debt ceiling sound like the sky was falling (because he is worried about his personal stock holdings?) and like it was the tea party (Bachmann in this case) going against the mighty GOP.

Unless ‘Caveman’ Boehner has grown some balls in the past month or so, he will cave and claim victory.

I’m with West, let’s get this done, do it right and move on. This country is sick and tired of nipping away for years and years at a problem we all know exists. Everybody just keeps passing the buck. Fix it or shut it down... one or the other. Until we do we can never move ahead with a future for this country... a true vision of greatness and a better future. Much different than this slow and certain death spiral we are in.

Can anybody do what is right? Everybody knows, must know, that is wrong to spend money you don’t have for things you don’t need... indeed, we can’t even spend money we don’t have for things we need. Spending beyond our means has to stop for the rebirth to begin.

“The biggest problem for the job market now is seen in our idiotic trade policies.

The biggest problems for domestic producers is regulation.”

Exactly. Think about live, producing factories withing a 50-mile range of where each of us lives. For many, we can count those on 1 hand.

A partial list of the GOP ‘elite.’ Pay attention to who signed on. I’ve been doing so for some time.

YES YES YES... Even if deep cuts in the Cabinet Departments, The White House Salaries, etc. would not save trillions - the Federal Bureaucracy needs to be curtailed — cut the Whole Federal Government employment by 25% in one shot. This country does not need 2 million people running it (ruining it too)... John Boehner can be pissed all he wants - his track record in accepting mediocre deals with obama is just not acceptable - therefore based on what Boehner HAS NOT DONE in the last nine months - he cannot be trusted to hold the line ... Boehner says he worried about the pressure from big business and Wall Street - WHAT ABOUT THE PEOPLE JOHN ? Are we chopped liver?

If Boehner walked on water, we’d have some ignorant boobs here say he cant swim.

Boehner is doing exactly the right thing, he has stood firm despite a determined Democrat-media conspiracy to bait Republicans into enabling the Democrat agenda (aka ‘compromise’).

but I still think Boehner is a weak, GOP elite (with a drinking problem)

Yes, that is indeed what the MSM tries to make the conservatives think but it is actually not the truth.

Boehner is NOT an elite...he has risen from the bottom and earned the leadership because he has the respect of the House Reps. Very few voted against him for Speaker. In addition, his voting record in the House is almost as conservative as you can get. Some expect perfection which will never be possible and you will ALWAYS miss that target. Boehner is a good leader for the times.

“Boehner should call the House into session at the time appointed for the fake White House meetings, pass a stiff bunch of immediate deficit reduction stuff and let the Senate and/or Zer0 destroy it.”

Right on.

Dont give the Obama Team any talking points about GOP obstructionism. Pass a debt ceiling increase bill and challenge the Senate to do the same.
