Sen. Harkin: "Cult Fringe" Holding Up Debt Ceiling Increase
Real Clear Politics ^ | 07/20/11

Posted on 07/20/2011 12:23:31 PM PDT by MissesBush

Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) calls Republicans "dead-beat debtors" among other things during a Democratic press conference on Wednesday morning.

"The debate and fight is not between Democrats and Republicans. It's between some Republicans and their sort of cult fringe as I refer to them out there," Harkin said.

"Democrats are willing to do whatever is necessary to raise the debt ceiling, not for future borrowing but to pay the debts that we racked up in the past. Which, mostly was racked up by a Republican House, a Republican Senate and a Republican President in the last 8 years. Yet, they're not willing to pay the bills," Harkin said.

Senator Harkin, we are not fringe; we are the fabric. And, we’ve finally decided that we’ve had enough of you and your blood-sucking colleagues.

Every Democrat who’s still in the Senate since 2006 voted against raising the debt ceiling in 2006. Obama, Clinton, Biden, and others.

Lousy rat hypocrites.

I’m supposed to TRUST this crowd of America haters who have long said that Americans must give up driving what and where they want to, must give up air conditioning and other creature comforts?

Starve that beast. We can survive without Harkins money, but he can't survive without ours!

Well said.

How in the world does this s##thead keep getting reelected in Iowa? I could understand if it was here in the People’s Republic of Illinois (we have the hellhole of Chicago to deal with) but you folks in Iowa don’t have that excuse.

“Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) calls Republicans “dead-beat debtors”

Is that part of that new era of civility that the turdburger in the White House referred to after the Giffords shooting?

Harkin is a Socialist “cult fringe” all unto himself!

He would have fought in the streets side by side with Lenon’s relatives in old Russia before the revolution. (as old as he is, he really might have!)

Really, you blibbering old fool? Your yellow dog cadre held the House hostage for 4 years before the voters kicked your ass last November.

Hey Tommy, you know that when you retire, a Republican is going to take your seat.

Bank on it.

Thomas Jefferson was apparently an early member of that “cult fringe”.

“I, however, place economy among the first and most important republican virtues, and public debt as the greatest of the dangers to be feared.”

“We must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our election between economy and liberty or profusion and servitude.”

“As the doctrine is that a public debt is a public blessing, so they think a perpetual one is a perpetual blessing, and therefore wish to make it so large that we can never pay it off.”

“$1,791,000 by Senate Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee member Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) for swine odor and manure management research in Ames”

By far his most useful accomplishment (aside from the fact that a more logical site for this particular research would be at the US Capitol).
