Senate and House Still Far Apart on Debt in 2 New Plans

WASHINGTON – The Democratic Senate and Republican House put themselves on a legislative collision course Monday as they moved forward with significantly different plans on how to raise the debt limit and avert a possible federal default next week.

House Republican leaders pushed for a vote Wednesday on a two-step plan that would allow the federal debt limit to immediately be raised by about $1 trillion and tie a second increase next year to the ability of a new joint Congressional committee to produce more deficit reduction.

But top Senate Democrats called the proposal a “non-starter” and said they would advance their own plan to reduce the deficit by $2.7 trillion and raise the debt ceiling until after next year’s elections, saying it met the conditions that Republicans had laid down during the ongoing debt fight.

“We’re about to go over a cliff here,” Senator Harry Reid, the Nevada Democrat who serves as majority leader, said Monday afternoon as he outlined his proposal.

He said that Republicans were essentially attempting to embarass President Obama in the middle of the 2012 election year by forcing another debt limit showdown and that Democrats would not go along with any plan that does not guarantee a debt limit increase through next year.

that Democrats would not go along with any plan that does not guarantee a debt limit increase through next year. The plan assembled by Mr. Reid quickly received the president’s endorsement

NYT spinning for their team.

This is essentially the same plan that Boehner-Cantor have been pushing for months. Now they're going to pretend that their plan which has more cuts than debt limit with NO tax hikes is what they've wanted.

LOL!

For one thing, he’ll be late, he’s always late, and another, I’ll either be in the ER with my mom or watching “The Closer”

If this imperious “leader” dares to ‘go it alone’, the next writing coming forth from Congress will be articles of impeachment in the morning.

It would appear political at this point. Too many other offenses have been committed by this President and overlooked.

The American people will not buy it now.

Now, when the dollar falls and gasoline rises to $15+ a gal, chinese apples at Walmart inflate to 5 bucks a piece, $500 laptops rise to $2500 and an I-Pad is beyond reach in affordability for the average American... maybe just maybe the impeachment of Obama will have some public support.

But then what? Clinton was impeached. He went nowhere.

My usually reserve Monday night to watch the shows I recorded Sunday night.

Thank god, I won’t have to be impacted by him until I watch the Monday night shows on Tuesday.

Maybe I will just watch the Teen Preggers show tomorrow night live.

Certainly enjoying this newer, lower profile Obama we were promised early this year.

We love this show. It is hard to see how they even make a living doing what they do. The sad part is the girl who works with them is so pretty, it is a darn shame she has totally ruined her looks and herself with all of those hideous, garish, slutty tattoos.

As for Obozo the clown, we would rather watch paint dry. The man is a total narcissist and watching him is a total waste of time.

Boehner’s plan...

A Republican source sends over John Boehner’s “two-step approach to hold President Obama accountable.”

Cantor said "no side gets all they want" says we put that in "Cut, Cap, Balance," says Obama wants "higher taxes and a vote through the election" and that's not in it.

Calls it "responsible plan" and "sets in motion a process for real cuts."

Not sure who else spoke--no audible intros. Third speaker said Obama "picks politics over people." Fourth speaker said the same. Fifth speaker mentioned the Harry Reid & Senate haven't passed a budget in over 800 days, attacked lack of plans from Obama & Dems, reiterated Obama focused on his reelection. (at this point Hannity lost audio)

Audio returned later. Female speaker, a House member, mentioned poll showed 2/3rds support for "Cut, Cap, Balance", said Senate ignored that and didn't even debate the bill. Says can't, "borrow and spend out of control."

Boehner took questions.

Reid just offered plan, said everything GOP wants, would plan be supported by House. Boehner said Reid's plan "full of gimmicks" and does nothing to address entitlements.

Another asked, "The Cut, Cap, & Balance group" (who are they?) has come out against Boehner's plan, can he get even a majority of House Republicans to go along? (Laughter). Someone else answer, maybe Cantor(?), that CCB was bipartisan so hopes Democrats will join with House GOP to pass this bill to get on the right path.

Balanced Budget Amendment (BBA) question asked. Boehner said this new bill requires a vote to be taken by House & Senate on "A Balanced Budget Amendment" after Oct 1 and before the 2nd package from the "joint selection committee" is voted on. Says it allows time for proponents to unify behind one version of a BBA and to build support across the country. Says it's time for America to help them make ultimate accountability (via a BBA) a reality.

End of presser.

They have a deal.

There is no other reason for Obama to go on television in primetime.

Look for all the platitudes and compromises and that both parties made significant sacrifices to get this monumental deal done.

Finally, look for Obama building himself up that it was because of his leadership that this got done.

Tomorrow the MSM will talk about obama’s courageous stance in fighting the evil republicans. Reid will blame the republicans for not getting Obama what he needed to complete the job and if this doesn’t work it will be the republicans fault.

Then look for Boehner to tell us this was the best thing for the country and politics was tossed aside.

In other words, Obama got his money, the can was kicked down the road and republicans can say no taxes were raised for the deal to get done.

Basically, America got screwed again.

Cavuto just finsihing up....and dingy and turbin are getting ready to spake...they have two charts...one says something about why Republicans should accept a longer term debt deal...the other one lists reasons why the Republicans should say yes.

We’re going to be here awhile.

I’d like to put up two posters for the Replicans in response.

The first would say..” why Republicans should say NO”,
the second should say “why Republicans should say HELL NO”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I say obama only wants a deal that has him not having to deal with this again in an election year. much like the obamacare start date. 10yrs of collections. 6yrs of benefits. He’s embarrased him self enough. We don’t have to even do that part. But I’m happy to see it.
