John F. Kerry almost became president running on the basis of his alleged heroism in Vietnam. Thanks to the efforts of a group of truth-tellers, the Swiftboat Veterans for Truth, the serious holes in the fantasy narrative propounded by the Kerry campaign came to the attention of enough Americans that John Kerry was not the first faux-Irish President of the United States.

It is because Jimmy pardoned him that it was not brought forward at the time. Because LEGALY it never happened.

Read the 14th amendment. The President doesn't have the power to allow someone like Kerry to serve in public office through a pardon.

Amendment 14

..............................

3. No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.

“Not wanting to just ‘pick on’ a “D” Prez, but lets start with LBJ’s ‘Silver Star’ as a result of a flyover in a war zone.
Being on the Appropriations Program sure didn’t hurt his chances..”

Cheapens the award to the point where it`s meaningless. Reminds me of Frank Burns on MASH. Put in for a Purple Heart because he was “wounded” in a war zone. A piece of egg shell got in his eye when he was cracking open a hard boiled egg.

Zero tolerance laws are designed so there is no thought. No reason whatsoever can be used in defence. Which I can think of a number of reasons why child pornography could be on your computer (not in this case though). Wade Sanders is a loon

example if you were hit by a virus that loaded it on your computer that clearly is an attack on your computer yet it is on your computer and your ass is cooked.

Well, that's curious. If Kerry really did receive a DD it should have been voted on by congress to allow him to serve -if I read this correctly.

If true it would be fitting to see him removed, stripped of benefits and retirement pensions and his record made to reflect his fraud.

You're right in your statement about the awards being cheapened, however, there are plenty of real life examples taht would be worth citing instead of using fictional ones - especially leftist fictional ones.

Here's a great example: Stolen Valor by B.G. Burkett and Glenna Whitley

You are correct. Congress added this to the 14th amendment, because they were concerned that President Andrew Johnson would issue a blanket pardon to all ex-confederates.

No duh.

And who is to say that congess did not?
I do not have the time dig through millions of pages of U.S.C. to find out whether or not they did.

Also, if now one knows of the disability, does it exist?

From the Boston Globe comments:

I served with Sanders in the reserves in the 70's. A TOTAL politician, got his silver star in 1992 with his political influence. It looked good on his record. I thought it was bogus at the time. Nice to see they took it back.

He got the Silver Star during the Clinton Administration? This should be looked into.

Careful research indicates that the Clinton Administration didn't start until January, 1993. Of course, the poster may have been off by a year or two.

Oh, uh, yeah. Maybe it was in the interregnum.

Perhaps. Either way, I'd like to take a moment to admire the term "interregnum."
