John F. Kerry almost became president running on the basis of his alleged heroism in Vietnam. Thanks to the efforts of a group of truth-tellers, the Swiftboat Veterans for Truth, the serious holes in the fantasy narrative propounded by the Kerry campaign came to the attention of enough Americans that John Kerry was not the first faux-Irish President of the United States.

A San Diego veterans activist and Vietnam War hero who served in a senior Navy post during the Clinton administration pleaded guilty yesterday to a federal charge of possessing child pornography. Wade Rowland Sanders, 67, acknowledged in federal court in San Diego that last May, he possessed computer files containing 600 images of minors, including a 21-minute video that depicted girls engaging in sex acts with an adult man, according to court records. He was caught under a 2½-year-old Department of Justice investigation called Project Safe Childhood, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in San Diego said.

Authorities arrested him Nov. 7.

In a telephone interview last night, Sanders said he had downloaded the files as part of his research for an article on the sexual exploitation of children in foreign countries. He said his work for the Clinton administration had included aiding victims of child sex abuse in the former Yugoslavia. “I have no sexual attraction to children whatsoever,” Sanders said. “There was no evil intent.” Sanders, a lawyer, said he didn’t realize federal child pornography laws barred downloading or viewing the material even by researchers. He said that is why he decided to plead guilty.

“I thought since my motives were pure and innocent, that would make a difference,” he said. “I’m technically guilty of the crime.”

Sanders pleaded guilty to one felony charge of possession of images of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

Sanders served as President Clinton’s Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Reserve Affairs, but chances are he’s one Clinton administration veteran who Barack Obama won’t be asking to join his administration.

In 2004, I was shocked, appalled, and enraged that the Democrats -- the largest political party in the country -- would nominate the most vile, duplicitous traitor to run for President of the United States.

And then came 2008...

Just when you start to think that liberals couldn't possibly stoop any lower, they show you a thing or two.

I am not so sure Wade Sanders should have been prosecuted for having child pornography on his computer. He did claim he was working on a story about abused children.

How do you get a story without getting the facts?

this could be another example of zero-tolerance laws that do not allow for reason.

It was the Magic Hat that would have swayed my vote to Kerry. Unfortunately for him, I found out about it too late so I voted for W.

U-T Editor Claims His Letter in Support of Wade Sanders Was Altered

May 6, 2009

FBI agents are looking into whether a letter written on behalf of Bill Clinton’s former military adviser was doctored. This week, a federal judge sentenced Wade Sanders to 37 months in prison for possession of child porn. KPBS Reporter Amita Sharma has details.

Union Tribune Editor Bernie Jones notified the judge this week that his letter in support of Sanders had been altered. He says he sent his original letter to Sanders.

“In my original letter, I had said to the judge I don’t see any purpose being served by a long prison term. That was changed to any prison term. I did not address in my letter the sex offender status because I was uncomfortable doing so.”

But the version submitted by Sanders to the judge has Jones advocating against Sanders being registered as a sex offender. Jones wouldn’t comment on who he thinks altered the letter. Jones blamed himself for not reading the letter Sanders sent back to him more carefully before he signed it. So did Sanders defense attorney Knut Johnson.

“I would expect an editor of a major newspaper would know to read it and look through and make sure that he agreed with the changes before he signed it and faxed it to me.”

Johnson believes Jones is trying to distance himself from his letter of support for Sanders because of criticism from colleagues. Jones denied that.

"All his awards were revoked when he was dishonorably discharged."

In spite of all that was published during the campaign, I've never heard this. Can you explain it further?

Wade Rowland Sanders: Motives For Child Porn Were “Pure and Innocent”

Judge Whelan gave him a far lower sentence than the maximum of 10 years, or the punishment suggested by the prosecution. Whelan was nominated by President Bill Clinton on June 4, 1998.

I know that there is a lot on the plate of Republican Congresspersons, right now, but the fight has become a struggle among the leadership.

I think a new law should be proposed, by freshmen congressmen if veterans aren't so disposed, to require that all candidates for elected or appointed Federal offices or positions, be required to make all personal records available to the public : Actual Birth Certificate as recorded (no facsimiles or summaries,) Education, Tax Returns, records of misdemeanors and felonies, and legal suits of which they have been a party.
The law should specifically reserve the rights of privacy for everyone else : i.e. Joe ordinary citizen/taxpayer.

If the Congressional leadership shelves the proposed law, it shall be reintroduced until a vote is allowed and it is adopted.

End of corruption, anyone?

He should have been smart enough to try and get more information from the DoJ. It simply was not in his job description to be viewing child pornography, and I'm not going to take his word on why it was there, anyhow.

What do you expect the guy to say? “Yeah, I get off on kiddie porn!!”? If he wasn't connected to Kerry, he'd be spending much more time in prison.

I like it.

And it would effectively put a stop to all Democrat candidates for any office whatsoever.

Even city dog catcher.
