The Senate voted to kill a House-approved bill to raise the debt ceiling, leaving the ball in the court of Senate leadership to produce a deficit reduction bill, with just days before the Aug. 2 deadline. The vote was 59-41.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid followed through on his promise to kill the bill, pushed through the House a day late by House Speaker John Boehner. The White House, which has thrown its weight behind a Reid proposal, had promised to veto the bill had it miraculously passed the Senate.
The Senate also killed the Cut, Cap, Balance Act last Friday and has yet to vote on a formal proposal. Having passed two proposals and with little appetite and time to attempt another bill, the House now waits to act on a Senate bill.
“I stuck my neck out a mile to get an agreement with the president of the United States,” Boehner thundered from the floor after the vote. “It’s time for the administration and time for our colleagues across the aisle to put something on the table. Tell us where you are!”
Brad Dayspring, spokesman for House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, announced via Twitter that the House will vote on Reid’s plan Saturday to show that it is “not capable of passing.” First votes are expected to begin at 1 p.m.

Interesting article, but basically says neither Reid nor Boehner’s bills will do enough....so they are still kicking the can down the road. Nothings changed.
I am so off the Ryan float in the debt ceiling parade. He knows he voted for cr@p.
But I think Boehner is in a horrible position...and, I'll say it...I think he was good with his little rant today. And, I'll even go out on the ledge: I think the American people, the normal Joe's and Jane's that don't follow this stuff like we do...ARE TAKING NOTE OF THIS MESS. They will hear the Boehner soundbite and they will see that little p*ssy Reid's response. They have also been exposed to the idiot in the WH day after day and realize he is an empty suit, who is a liar. He has no plan. Even Joe Sixpack is figuring that out.
I have no way of knowing if there is a “secret plan” and that Boehner is a man of little character....But, if I have to guess...and that is what we are all doing now...I say he is really trying to work in a miserable situation and my $$$ is on him.

I think what has changed was last night’s non-vote. The Tea Partiers did not fall for it. This means that any bill from the senate, crafted by Reid, will also not pass.
I predict that August 2 will come and go with no bill. This if the House barely passed a Boenher bill with the Balanced Budget Admendment, it will not pass the crap that Reid and McConnell will put together.
I jumped in earlier without knowing who they were. Hatch and Graham are suspect. But I will reserve judgement until I see how this plays out. I think I can give a pass to the others for know. Lee is a very good guy. If Reid can’t get his bill through the Senate he may come back to this one.

Perhaps but it was enough to shake up Reid that that's a possiblity...and Reid ran away from it by tabling the ammendment. Chess game is certainlly interesting these days...unfortunately noen of it has a good outcome....our debt will still be unsustainable....Congress will still not be effective...and will be ahnding over cuts to the 12th. None of it makes me hopeful this nation will recover any time soon. Just the opposite...that the politicians will still be politicing and lining their wallets and those who support their campaigns..... while the man on the street looses it all.
Mine too. And anyone can flame me all they want. Watching Boehner throughout this entire mess has only increased my respect for the man, and I freely admit I had very little respect for him when it all first started.

If the Senate is going to gut whatever the House passes and turn it into a Reid/McConnell bill, why was there a need to pass the latest Boehner bill which passed today?
Why couldn’t Reid use the Cut Cap and Balance Plan (which he tabled) , gut it for their purposes and send that back to the House?
Why did we go through all the agony of passing another bill knowing it was going to be tabled as well?
It’s all Kabuki. This latest bill will be totally liberaled up so that Pelosi’s party could even vote for it when it comes back to the House, and our guys will be left looking like saps because their vote won’t even be needed to pass it. The rinos will help Pelosi push it across.
The only thing accomplished by this charade is that the media and dems got another chance to trash and divide the Tea Party guys in Congress.
I would have just told Harry that we sent them the CCB legislation and let him deal with it. Don’t know why we had to do a re-do.
I don’t think so, in fact I predict that in the end the Senate will freak out when they look back at what got passed up.
I know I’m sick and tired of cutting back on everything because of high taxes, just so a bunch of left wing freeloaders can sit on their assess and do nothing all day.
