Biden charging Secret Service for cottage rental
Washington Times ^ | 7/30/11 | Jim McElhatton

The U.S. Secret Service does more than protect Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. — the agency also pays him rent.

Since April, Mr. Biden has collected more than $13,000 from the agency charged with protecting him and his family, for use of a rental cottage adjacent to the waterfront home he owns in a Wilmington, Del., neighborhood.

Mr. Biden, listed not as vice president in federal purchasing documents but as “vendor,” is eligible for up to $66,000 by the time the government contract expires in the fall of 2013, the records show.

Officials say the arrangement came about when a previous tenant moved out of the cottage and the Secret Service moved in.

No different than Hilary and Billy Jeff charging the Secret Service rent for the Gate house at the Chapaqua house. Same deal different day.

After Tuesday, when Timmy Taxes has to start prioritizing, where in the queue do you think Biden’s rent check will end up?

Are you clueless enough that you don’t know how to click a person’s handle to see that she’s from MD?

Or did you just assume the “MD” meant “Medical Doctor”?

I thought it meant "metal detector." It confused me. I was afraid to ask.

Funny, I would've never thought that watching "The Real Housewives of New Jersey” would make me "better" than you "schlubs". Maybe it makes me a better person than you, though...

Dang humblegunner! Did a doctor accidently cut off your penis when doing an appendectomy? Is that why you harbor such resentment?

Not only does Clinton use our taxes — through that USSS rental — to pay his morgage. In addition, we paid plenty for upgrades to the property in Chapaqua so the Clintons could be “protected”.

I hope there is an off-season discount involved, otherwise I smell imputed income. Surely it will be disclosed on the appropriate forms. :)

This is being dragged up to discredit Biden..(a very easy task to say the least).

Try this scenario....

I have been saying since the beginning that as long as Biden is BO’s VEEP, no one would harm a hair on BO’s chinny chin chin because of the fear of Biden becoming the pResident.

They will start digging up dirt on Biden, allowing him to either be removed or resign his post, so a hand picked VP can be put in place.

Then when the BO SHTF starts, BO can pull a Nixon, resign before being impeached or jailed and the ‘hand picked VP’, not voted into office etc (think G Ford) can be inserted.

And, believe it or not, I am NOT a conspiracy theorist but I definitely do not doubt for a minute that this could take place.

I presume he has to charge rent at "market rate" to satisfy some ethic's or gov't contracting law but don't actually know.

I don't suppose he's donating the rent income, minus any taxes he pays on it, to the U.S. Treasury either.

K. Politicians all do it. He shouldn't lose income on the rental because the SS wants to use it.

If the SS were to stop by here and ask me a single question in my house, the conference room rate on the living room is $10K/hr (canapes and coffee not included), two hour minimum. I will bill them. Rest assured.

Harry Truman was pretty poor when he retired, had to live in his Mother-in-laws house.

Guess they moved in 1996. I lived on Presidential drive in the 90’s and just past what was then their house was my 1 mile mark.

BFD !

One of the nice things about summer property with extra room is that you get to invite friends who help to make it a good time. (And maybe if you don't have friends you rent it out.) Having to cede those extra rooms to some government employees certainly deserves compensation.
