Do you think we won the debt battle?

Posted on 08/02/2011 4:10:15 PM PDT by A Cyrenian

Did the conservatives come out on top on the debt issue?

I'm not going to pretend to be an expert. But I think the conservatives in the House of Representatives did a hell of a job. Considering the hand they were dealt.

The liberals control the Senate & Monkey ears Huessin. So we're down 2 - 0.

If we had control of the Senate and/or the presidency, I would had loved to see more.

But, with the current situation, I think we won. And I'm surprised there's not more celebration on Free Republic.

Have we been beaten down so much that we can't be excited about our accomplishments?

What do you think?

Hannity made the point on his radio show today that without the influence of the Tea Party, the outcome would have been much worse.

Something to think about anyways.

Since you asked:

Hero to Zero : How Boner blew his chance to become an American Icon.

The election of 2010 was historic in its scope. Clearly any leader created by it had a tremendous mandate for doing the change for which he was swept into office. In this case the change demanded was simple and direct . It was plastered over and over again in the signs of the one million strong Tea Party  protesters who had marched into Washington DC, the District of Corruption. America is heading for bankruptcy and “We the people” want the spending to stop! As one pundit put it cleverly : This election was a restraining order on the Democrat party.

It looked like that election was going to achieve it's goal . Routinely voted up until now the debt ceiling hike was finally denied. If no other deal could be reached the budget would absolutely, undeniably become balanced and balanced soon.  The House could have done nothing after the ceiling vote and had the total victory the People who put them there wanted. Fiscal restraint is a like cross to a vampire for the left and it responded quite predictably the way it always does, with lies designed to bring up unfounded fears. The first lie was that of default. There is money coming in every month that is more than enough to pay the interest (for now).

Of course the left and it's willing idiots began to bang the drums loudly. This act dared to strike them at the very core of it's power, the ability to dole out loot! Enormous pressure was brought to bare as a whole host of predators and parasites became endangered of losing feeding space to their depleted prey. If there were no honest victims of the necessary cuts the forces of the left would create them, the elites who provide the left with their cutbacks would stay first in line. The Republicans, however, had the upper hand, a mandate from the People and the power of the purse. The Constitution limits spending to the House alone. If Republicans had simply waited long enough the desperate left would have had no choice but to give in on any compromise bill the Republicans chose to offer. That offer was made: Cut Cap and Balance which the Senate tabled without even any debate.

It is the hero who stands up to the fear and does what is right anyways that is remembered long after he is gone. The name of Achilles is remembered to this day for such boldness. Unlike Achilles the only   arrows Boner had to fear was a shower of lies designed to scare the people and Boner himself into backing down. This was not a typical vote, the very future of the greatest nation on Earth , ever , was in his hands. With only a little courage he could have easily saved it. Millions of Americans had paid with their very lives for much less . Seldom in the tides of history can one man do so much for so many. If Boner had stood tall and simply waited out the Democrats , as the necessary cuts began to occur the Democrats would have had no choice but to pass the Cut , Cap  and Balance plan.  Instead he  caved into the fear and blew his chance to become one of the great names in the pantheon of history.

I think that you still do not realize the grave situation facing the US. We are simply doomed unless major changes to our economics occur. Not going to happen... Yes, we our children are facing a very unfortunate future...

But I think the conservatives in the House of Representatives did a hell of a job.

So how many bureaucrats will be laid off as a result (as opposed to dying at their desks)? Did any of you sainted "conservatives" even suggest reducing the size of the bureaucracy?

Color me disillusioned.

Only if you believe a GOP cave-in equates to a "win". This was no win, except for the Rats who are convinced they can now roll the RINOs at will. The so-called GOP "leadership" is a bad joke. Boehner and McConnell continue to be a part of the problem, not the solution.

Here's one clue. The Dow dropped 266 points today. The market says this was no win.

There is no victory here. Not even a step in the right direction. This “deal” does nothing about our out of control spending or skyrocketing debt and, in fact, authorizes the largest borrowing/spending binge and the largest national debt for any country in world history! And therefore will bring on the largest tax increase in world history, whether that tax is an actual tax levied on the people or an inflation tax or an interest rate tax or a fall in the dollar tax or a depressed economy tax or a loss of jobs tax. Most likely ALL of the above! And it dilutes our fiscally responsible vote in the House and it turns undue power over to the senate, the dems, the RINOS and the Marxist Obama himself! It’s startling how BAD this deal actually is and how badly our GOP “leadership” handled it. It’s total capitulation by our side!

Our country is headed for national bankruptcy and our GOP leadership is lost in a state of incompetency, impotency, cowardice and denial. It’s institutionalized insanity!!

This must be repealed by the next congress and the spending/taxing/borrowing death spiral STOPPED!! It’s way past time for fiscally responsible, sane adults to take charge!!

Stop the spending, stupid! Cut up the credit cards! Repeal all this big spending, big taxing, big borrowing, big government nonsense!! And repeal ObamaCommieCare while we’re at it!!

This deal removed our (we the people’s) power in the House of Representatives and unconstitutionally redistributed it to the senate and the presidency! It effectively dissolves representative government by, for and of the people. It’s taxation without representation!

Repeal this tyranny!

Restore our constitutional representation in the House!!

Restore our constitutionally LIMITED government!!

Rebellion is brewing!!

Vote the corrupt bastards OUT and tea party conservatives IN!! We must take the majority!!

Yes, it’s a victory. We have the House, that it. As long as Hussein’s socialist carcass is sitting in the White House and the Democrats control the Senate, we will never get even close to the kind of cuts and policies we want.

The deal itself is sketchy and not nearly enough, but we’ve changed the discussion from how much more to spend to how much more to cut. Now we use every opportunity including the upcoming budget fight to push for more.

Big Ears is sitting on a crappy economy which seems to be spiraling into the crapper, and the Democrats have to defend way more seats than us in the Senate. More and more it becomes clear we are set up very nicely to run the table in 2012 - so long as we have a real conservative candidate and not a bum like Romney. If we play our cards right 2012 could be as transformational election as any in our lifetimes or in modern history.

I think we did about as well as could be expected at this point. We are not going to get everything we wanted with only 1/2 of 1/3 of the government. If we play our cards right we have a great chance of taking both the senate and the white house next year. If we do that, all bets are off. If at that point we don’t make serious cuts then, and only then, should they be taken to task.

The name calling on here by some is over the top. Some call Allen West a coward and a traitor. That is nonsense. Some want Paul Ryans skin on the wall. I don’t agree with that either. Peoples emotions are high and when that happens there is a certain pack mentality that takes over and people feed off of each other. We should take what happened here as a step in the right direction and build on it in 2012.

I think there is still much work to do...Yes there was some who held the line, but NO not nearly enough to have achieved an outcome that would have helped cure the economy.
No deal would have been better than what we got!
